Who do you despise on YOUR side of the political spectrum?

Leftie here. I hate Al Sharpton with the heat of a million suns–he’s just a lying, disingenuous, illiterate, demagogic race-baiter who, unfortunately, I often agree with on many issues. Always makes me question my own opinions when they agree with his because I despise him so.

Who’ve you got?

I’m a conservative-libertarian. I despise the conspiracy theorists and anti-science idiots.

Really, I was going to type out a long list but couldn’t finish. Marjorie Taylor Green for one out of 200.

I lean leftish as a Canadian and I dislike Justin Trudeau nearly as much as my (voted Conservative since the 60s) dad does, for some of the same reasons but likely some different ones.

Can’t stand the Clintons either. Greed-driven sellouts, the both of them. There’s a lot to dislike about Joe Biden, though my atheist ass thanks the DOYC that he won in 2020. Particularly his stripping out bankruptcy protections for students in the big 2005 Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection act, basically because a lot of financial institutions base themselves in Delaware for lax regulatory reasons and he knew who buttered his bacon.

  • Ralph Nader, for helping us get Bush I.
  • Not a big fan of Sharpton.
  • What side of the spectrum is Gabbard on? If she’s “my side”, then I’m not a fan.
  • I think DeBlasio is a waste of space and was a terrible mayor.
  • Cuomo was a good governor, mostly, but he’s a terrible person and should have resigned months and months before he did, and he shouldn’t be complaining about cancel culture.
  • Jon Corzine, former NJ governor, was not a good governor and was an even worse commodities brokerage CEO.

I’m pretty liberal, and all of those folks are pretty liberal (maybe not Gabbard? I just know she seems to be a fruitcake). I don’t know if I actually despise any of them, although Nader did a lot of damage.

I’d say Bill Clinton. He always came off as a sleazy used car salesman to me even though I voted for him. Since I’m only in the most liberal 70%-85% of the populace, I don’t think it would be fair for me to count people who are firmly to the left of me socially and fiscally to be on “my side”, but still, there aren’t any I can think of that are prominent enough for me to care about and I am knowledgeable enough about to “despise”. Although Noam Chomsky, and the foreign-policy-left-leaning people who want to blame America for everything, would almost count. If he were more moderate in other arenas he would almost count as being on “my side”.

I consider myself to be independent, but there are no politicians who really sing my song. Some get close. It’s always Democrats who do that. So I vote for Democrats pretty much straight ticket because if someone is going to beat a Republican, it will be a Democrat. So until there are more than two actual choices, I may as well be Mr. Democrat.
Anyway, Joe Manchin can go fuck himself.

I don’t much like Michael Moore. I’ve watched his “documentaries” and found them entertaining, but I can tell that they are heavily slanted to push an agenda rather than tell both sides of a story, and that just makes me feel like I’m being lied to. I also don’t like his tactics of “journalism” by harassment.

Oh and if we can go back a few decades, Marion Barry is my mental test to determine how partisan I have become. If I reach the point where I would rather vote for Marion Barry than for any Republican, then I have to admit that I’m a complete partisan.

I despise Kyrsten Sinema. Her votes, her fashion, and her cheesy little dance when she refused to let working people have a living wage.

To be fair, Michael Moore isn’t trying to be a journalist or present anything like a balanced perspective. He is a patent propagandist and his ‘features’ are transparent advocacy in the form of recreational outrage. If you come at them from that perspective they are ‘fine’ (if you like that sort of thing) but they aren’t a source of factual information any more than Oliver Stone is a good source of information about the Kennedy assassinations.

I believe her nickname is “The Fucken Worst”. She and Joe “This Fuckin’ Guy” Manchin are a matched pair.

Stranger

If “my side” is Democrats, all those rich mofos who bloviate about the working class while sending their kids to private schools get right up my nose.

If “my side” is the far left, nobody hates leftists like other leftists.

I totally agree, and that’s my problem. I don’t like propaganda even if its from my side. It gives me the feeling I’m being scammed.

But do you consider her to be on your side of the political spectrum?

I’ve called Moore the “Limbaugh of the left”. (It wasn’t meant as a compliment.)

Bernie Sanders? Despise might be too strong of a word, but I can’t really forgive him for helping Trump in 2016. And his followers are so cult-like that it’s a huge turnoff.

I’ll second former mayor de Blasio. I couldn’t believe he had the audacity to run for President. Delusional.

I love politics. I hate politicians.

There are very few exceptions.

There are, however, gradations – those for whom my deep loathing is just a tad less intense.

I lean Libertarian and I despise Ayn Rand and her devotees

Heh. Back in the W era, I called Ann Coulter the “Michael Moore of the right”. They both present well-cited facts, but they cherry pick only those that back up their position. And ultimately, the real subject of any of their films/books is how fearless and awesome they are personally about speaking truth-to-power.

Hillary Clinton. She kicks ass as a politician but I’m not a fan of hers personally.

Also Beto. Used to be a huge fan but then his stupid remark: “Hell yeah we’re gonna come for your guns!” (and then doubling down on it) is one of the stupidest things you can say in Texas politics. He essentially made the republican boogey man a real thing.

With a cactus.
