I have problems with hand/feet coordination. If I get the beat in the feet right, I cannot move the arms, and viceversa. Yea, I cannot multitask at dancing. :o
That does not mean I don’t like dancing. It just means I need a good partner and lots of practice. Not so bad when you think about it.
I enjoy dancing a great deal and have taken classes in swing before. I can pick up dances very quickly, though, so whatever dance is happening, if my partner can show me the basic steps, we’ll be off.
I wonder what some people mean by club dancing, however. I think of club dancing as grinding, hips together, bobbing and weaving around and basically trying to tease eachother as much as possible, all while following the music and your partner.
I’ll also go to clubs and do my fat boy version of popping and locking, which I guess is what most people would consider random flailing. I don’t think mine is that random, but who knows. Most of the time I’m told I look like my bones went away and I’m moving in ways that most people shouldn’t be able to.
Anyone in Pittsburgh feel like hitting up some swing/samba/salsa classes? I may have a partner for the next 3 weeks, but that’s about it, so I’ll need some more people to dance with.
Seriously, though, we’ve watched the country dance classes practice before us and I’ve seen plenty of the stuff at some of the dances we’ve gone to and it just does nothing for me. I’m quite sure the people doing it are having fun, but it’s just not for me. But then again, neither is the bachata, although I enjoy all the other Latin dances we’ve tried
The bachata and tango are seriously embarrassing dances - the woman looks like she’s dancing like a duck. I refuse to bachata because it looks so incredibly stupid (the woman places her legs on either side of the man’s bent knee - unless you are a professional dancer, this is extremely unattractive).
I love to dance too - I got very lucky in finding DPJ, and dragging him out to ballroom dance lessons. And he does lead very well - I have been led by other guys in class, and they are just about clueless. I have a really hard time preventing myself from backleading (a supreme no-no in ballroom) when they are so bad.
I like dancing. It just feels good & I often laugh a lot while doing it. Also, it’s something you can do with people in other countries, like at clubs & parties, although you may not speak each other’s language.
