Maybe HE is the guy. Think about it! He traveled back in time to park his visage in your memory and then jumped to the Sony studios just in time to replay in your mind lo these many years later.
I just don’t see any resemblance here. Sorry. But thanks for the try.
Believe it or not, but that has occurred to me, too. And if weren’t for the fact that tdn has seen the resemblance and appears to have the same (or very similar) “mystery face” in mind, I might dismiss my own fixation on some mental illness.
The scary thing is that I’m thinking so seriously that this is a recent appearance by the Mystery Guy. It may be years old and just so strong because of the near dead-on match that it’s snatched that memory you describe from way back in my memory.
The more Googling I do, the more it becomes obvious that the face I’m remembering is not at all common.
Since this thread’s activity has dropped off and since I have spent literally hours Googling for all sorts of categories of images in the hopes of spotting anything that might trigger some recognition of the face I’ve been trying to recall, I finally went back to Know Your Meme: Weegee to see if the similarities might be all I’m remembering.
I spent a fair amount of time a year or so ago exploring this set of YouTube clips and found them fascinating. All I can figure is that somehow when I saw that Jeopardy! episode with Mr. Sullivan, my memory fused with something about his expression and maybe the eyes to make me start wondering where I had seen that face. I’m fully prepared for the resemblance to be exclusively in my mind and that others will wonder what’s wrong with me!
Until something better jumps into my awareness, I’m going to let this go as the probable answer to my search.
Does this ring any bell with any of you who have been trying to help? If so, can you expand on it? If not, thanks for your efforts anyway.
Last but not least, my apologies to Mr. Sullivan if and when he stumbles across this thread and sees what some weirdo thought he looked like. I just hope he sees a little of it himself.
Firstly, that is Dr. Sullivan to you, Major if you’re nasty.
Secondly, my husband has a great sense of humor and would think this thread very funny.
Thirdly, I take offense to the hair cut comments! I cut his hair! How dare you.
It’s flattering that your very first post at SDMB would be to this 16-month-old thread! And over all that time I’ve come no closer to thinking of that resemblance’s owner. But it had quit being a quest after a few weeks. I just assumed it was a matter of my way of seeing things like that. That fact that tdn shared my certainty was most of why the thread continued to fascinate me for those days.
Does Dr. Sullivan find the idea intriguing as much as funny? Has he been made aware of the resemblance from others? Does he read SDMB himself?
