Who Doesn't Like Pie n Chips? - SDMB Poketroplis 3rd Quarter, 2006

:burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrpppppppppppppp:!

Our friendly poker game may be coming to end.

Yeah, I’ve already pulled my money from Party, probably Stars later today. Those are two sites that said they will stop dealing with anyone in the US. This sucks.

From the article linked to in that thread:

“A ban would also hit payment processors such as Neteller Plc and Optimal Group’s FireOne subsidiary.”

I use Neteller exclusively … wonder if I should go cash out both my PokerRoom and Gaming Room accounts while I still can!

I was thinking the opposite. If the funds are already in neteller when the act is signed, I can still play. Right?

Except my funds aren’t in Neteller right now. My concern is that the ban goes into effect and Neteller stops accepting cashouts from online sites – so I’d have to keep playing online until I spend all of the cash in my accounts (I’m under no illusion that I’ll win enough times to keep my accounts funded ;)). But if the legality of online gambling becomes even shakier than it already is, because of the kind of work I do it might be in my best interests to stop playing poker online altogether. So if Neteller is going to be affected, I’m thinking I might risk overreacting and just cash everything out. Maybe even today.

Dammit, you people are freaking me out. Is it really this bad?

By the way, this got passed by those assholes attaching it to a port security bill…

Neteller’s press release on the subject.

Cite? I see nothing on the subject on PokerStars’ site. Aside from Stars and GamingClub, I probably have only a few bucks out there, which, if I lost, would not upset me terribly.

Here is the statement from Party .

Nothing definite from Stars though, so I still have a small amount there.

Just to let you guys know, I am not playing the next three weeks. I’m getting married on Saturday and will be too busy this Thursday to play and then I wil be in Ireland for two weeks (yay!). So somebody else should create the tournaments on Gaming Room (it’s very easy to do) and also might want to start a new thread for the new quarter.

I’ll be able to do the standings when I get back as long as someone posts the results.

Good luck!

Hopefully there will be a game for you to come back to in three weeks. In the meanwhile, have a disaster-free wedding, and a gorgeous honeymoon.

I got an email from Sun Poker. A company that handles their electronic transactions will no longer serve US players, but money can be withdrawn from the site. A page at the web site says that all money will be automatically refunded and checks mailed in three to four weeks. All US accounts have been disabled for real money play.

I think this will all boil down to what Neteller/Firepay etc. decide to do (if in fact they have any wiggle room).

Lots of good info and discussion of what this turd legislation may do to our little game may be found here and here.

I set up the game for this week. Let’s hope we can play.

Unless the operator preemptively shuts down, we hve at least 270 days before any new restrictions would go into effect. Then it’s just more of a question of how to move money.

I’m out.

I withdrew all of the cash from both my Gaming Room and PokerRoom accounts two days ago, and plan to make a withdrawal request from Neteller soon. I don’t feel like playing wait-and-see with Neteller, and I don’t feel like setting up a different account funding source. Plus, as I said before, with the legality of online gambling becoming shakier every day it’s probably best for me to just avoid it.

I had a lot of fun playing with y’all for the past three months – if anyone’s ever up for a $20 tourney on a Friday afternoon in Northern Virginia, drop me a line!

I have heard of sites that can be funded with prepaid phone cards - probably available everywhere.

Most entertaining wedding I have been in: At the appropriate point, the groom said “With this wing I thee wed”. One of the bridesmaids laughed (silently) so hard she peed herself. Then, during the recessional, one of the candles ringing the altar overflowed and flaming "shoop-shoop"s were splashing the carpet. Seems like there was a third event, but that was a lonnnnnnnnnng time ago.

new thread here.
