who else is living without certain major appliances?

me, i dont have a tv or a microwave.

to compensate, i watch and re-watch the same 9 episodes of the golden girls on youtube, and i make popcorn on the stove.

i dont have a tv on purpose - i love tv above all else, but if i have a tv, i will spend 23 hours a day watching it, and so i figured, if i dont have a tv, i will not, obviously, be able to watch one, which will make me a much more efficient and productive person. (sadly, it didnt work out that way. i am perfectly capable of spending 23 hours a day futzing around online.)

i dont have a microwave on accident - my apartment didnt have one when i moved in and there is really no good place to put one. the only time i really long for a microwave is when my hot-dog pot is dirty, but my yearning for a hot dog is not motovation enough for me to clean it. it would be so easy to just wrap a hot dog in a paper towel and go to town.

actually, it is probably best i dont have a microwave - all of my futzing around on-line has given me a list of Interesting Experiments To Do With Your Microwave (grapes, eggs, matches, do-it-yourself plasma, etc) which would inevitably lead to fire and mayhem. ditto a blender - ever since i discovered the phenomenon of Will It Blend? i have longed for a blender, but it is best i do not have one, as i would quickly proceed to blend myself out of all my earthly possessions.

i also dont have a dishwasher, a washing machine, or a dryer, but for me those dont really count because i live in a tiny apartment, in which a dishwasher would look silly, and there is a laundry room in the basement. oh, and i dont have an air conditioner, but i DO have two very nice fans.

i also dont have a coffee-maker, but i think i might buy one.

so who else is living and lacking in certain major modern appliances?
love
yams!!

One of my previous apartments didn’t have a dishwasher, a microwave, a TV, a freezer, or a coffee pot. I tell ya, that year I actually got really good at domestic skills like washing dishes and cooking. I didn’t have a TV so I didn’t have much else to do, so why not a rousing Thursday night game of “How the heck do I make coffee with a pot of boiling water and a strainer wtihout getting 3rd degree burns?”

I am currently living without an oven, as the model is a 24" built-in and it’s proving hard to find someone who can both sell and install such an obsolete model.

You can do a lot with a toaster oven, but sometimes you gotta have the real thing.

No dishwasher or oven in my lil studio apartment. Oh well, I live in New York. Anything I would’ve “baked” can be purchased at any bakery, and at much better quality than I’d have made.

No oven. It’s also a bult-in. I use the space for storage.

There is one electrical outlet in the entire kitchen and it isn’t in the workspace.

No garbage disposal.

I have not had a TV or related devices since I was 17. The last time I saw TV was when I was in the army.

I didn’t have a dishwasher for 8 years, from college graduation until I bought my condo in May. I’m actually not sure how to use it, I still just wash the dishes by hand. It’ll get used when my mom comes to visit.

I’m Chinese and I never knew what a dryer was until I saw one in the army. I don’t have one right now, it seems like a perfectly useless device. Never had a dishwasher either.

No dishwasher, washer or dryer. I, too, live in a small apartment with a laundry room downstairs, so I do laundry there. The biggest reason I might want a dishwasher would be to get the counter space over it.

For the first time in my life I don’t have a dishwasher or a garbage disposal. They just don’t really do those things here. I miss them very much–I cook a lot and their absence makes doing so more difficult.

No microwave, dishwasher, garbage disposal, air conditioner, washing machine, dryer, coffee maker, blender, …

No dishwasher, washing machine, dryer. I live alone, so the first is silly to have, the second I used to have, but it leaked so it got biffed and not replaced years ago, and the third is way too expensive to run, and I sold the one I had for grocery money some time back.

no working tv, no dishwasher, no clothes dryer, no freezer, no coffee pot (minor)

For about 10 years, I didn’t have a TV. Then I splashed out. I still don’t watch it that much.

I don’t have a television. I do have a dishwasher, but I use it only once a year to make sure it’s still working.

I don’t have a car either. I do practically all of my travelling on public transport.

No sinks.

Makes me crazy.

I don’t have a dishwasher either but I don’t really consider it an essential. I wonder what percentage of households have them? I bet it’s far less than microwaves, dvd players, or computers.

I just got a washer and dryer this year after twenty years of not having them. It’s truly awesome to be able to laundry whenever I want.

We don’t have a dishwasher either. I’ve only had one for about 3 years total of our nearly 15 years of marriage. I might actually get one if we ever got around to the kitchen remodel. Since that involves stripping the room back to the studs and starting over, it’s going to be a little bit longer.

I spent all summer without a toaster. I love toast. Sometimes I make it now just cause I can.

Easier to list what I have:

Radio/CD player.
Laptop (2)

My flat comes with:

Washer/dryer.
Microwave.
Cooker
Fridge/freezer.

That’s about it really.
