Oooooooh ooooooh ooh ooh oooo-oo-ooo-oooooooooh ooooh.

It IS a nice tune. I also like the bemused look on the mom’s face (but I wonder if she looks like that when Junior’s flinging mashed potatoes across the table).
Is there a site where one can find out credits for commercials? I’ve always wanted to find out who was singing “Getting Better” on the Phillips commercials.
I love it! I have a ukulele now, and would LOVE to find out who wrote it, so I could buy the sheet music from a reputable dealer!
I sent an e-mail to eToys asking about the song on the commercial. Here’s the answer:
The talented artist who composed the theme song heard on our commercials
is a Hawaiian Musician, Israel Kamakawiwo’ole (“Iz”). The song is
featured on two of his CDs, “Facing Future” (track #14) and “Ka’Ano’I”
(track #7). The CD, “Facing Future” is now available at eToys and can
be found by entering the words “Facing Future” into the search box on
our Web site, or by clicking on the following link:

We hope you enjoy listening to his music as much as we do.
I also love it. Every time I hear it I wish I had kids to buy toys for. It’s amazing how much the music in an ad can influence my choices in either direction.
Yes! I always thought I was nuts, but it sounds soo good…oooh…ooooh…oohhh oooh oooh.
Those toys that the parents bought for the kids just about sucked, though. Ohh, pseudo diving equpiment. Fun!
You guys are so great. Only my eleventeenth post and i get to talk with cool people about cool things.
My wife and I are always wondering about the great music on commercials - the ones y’all are talking about. We’re just hesitant to tell anyone we hum along to TV ad music.
The only one not mentioned here that we’re curious about - the “Zoom-zoom” music on the Mazda SUV commercials. (YAH-zoom-zoom-zoom. YAH-zoom-zoom-zoom.)
Nothing that fun since the “Da-Da-Da” VW commercial.
“Brother Iz”, as he was known to his fans, passed away a very short time after that album was released.
I have been listening to this song for a couple of years now, and I always perk up when I hear it.
It was also used in the movie “A Guy Named Joe” (I think)
The first time I heard this song was when NPR did a profile about him, and I haunted the Internet to find a copy. Just a couple of weeks later, he passed away.
It was a shock.
Thanks, Soup. That’s some beautiful music.
BTW, CDNow.com has the disc on sale for $13.49
BTW, the 80’s group Trio were the ones tht did “Da Da Da”.
I love the eToys music. I cry whenever those commercials come on (either because they are that beautiful, or because I am a basket case…you be the judge ;))
Soup, I don’t know who is singing in the Phillips commercials, but I know that the song is by the Beatles. I think it’s on the Sgt. Pepper album, but pepperlandgirl would know for sure.
Count me in as well. I’m awfully glad to hear it’s a real song, too, and not just a snippet created for the commercial. I hate it when I start loving music that exists only in ads!
Might just wander over and pick up that CD…
Know what’s good too? The music they play in the background of that Victoria’s Secret commercial. I dig that too!!
Yeah, yeah . . . I love the MUSIC in those commercials
After that eToy/eToys legal battle, I was all mad at eToys, but I LOVE that song. I’m glad to hear I’m not alone. It’s right up there with that “Pink Moon” song by…(let me check my Napster files, hang on…) Nick Drake. I don’t even remember what car that was for, but the song is so pretty.
“Saw it written on a soy-say[huh?] Pink Moon is on it’s way. One of you something-something. Pink Pink Pink…” Anyone else know the song I’m talking about? Where the kids are in the car going to the party, but they get there and decide to drive around some more instead? Lovely ad. It makes me all nostalgic, and I don’t even know for what.
If you like that song, you’ll also like “White Sandy Beach.” I heard it for the first time shortly after he died, and damn, if that didn’t get me teary…
It’s from “Meet Joe Black”: Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What a Wonderful World
…I love this song…
Wow, thanks, DMcD! That’s the other one I was trying to think of…
I’m with you - not sure why that ad hits as well as it does.
Mebbe it’s 'cause of all the beautiful, starry nights I’ve done something else rather than go for a drive in the country.
<sigh>
Note to self: Self, you don’t have to watch Drew Carey on those niights when the air is cool, the stars are bright, and the moon is full.
