Today’s Weird Earl is http://www.geocaching.com/ If you have a GPS, or are interested in getting one, please take a look. If we have enough people interested, we could start our own SDMB treasure hunt.
Oooooh, that looks like fun. I’ve got a little DeLorme unit with Topomap USA, and will (hopefully) be getting a handheld with a GPS unit next month…
I’ve got a couple of GPS units, and I’ve done the geocaching thing (there’s a cache within walking distance of my apartment). It was mildly fun.
But I introduced my parents to it, and they LOVE it. I think they’ve even placed their own caches around Houston.
I’m thinking, if we get enough people, we could put a “travel bug” in there of some kind. Something you would find and take to the next cache for other dopers to find.

I am playing WAY too much everquest, I saw the thread title and wondered which mob dropped it.
Verry tired, bed now. night.
Another cool site for people with GPS thingies is The Degree Confluence Project
There are still a handfull of confluences left to be done in the USA, and even more in other parts of the world.
Yeah, there’s one very near to my home!
Yes, I do have a GPS (Magellan 4000XL), AND I greatly appreciate the heads-up to the Weird Earl–according to that site, there’s a Geocache on the hill behind the University campus I work at (which is less than a mile from where I sit now)!
