I wear a size 14 EEEE shoe and weigh about 280. I’m recently retired and spending a lot more time on my feet walking, standing, etc. Losing about a pound a week. But, my feet are killing me!
Who makes a comfortable well padded shoe for those of us blessed with big feet? I used to wear Red Wings almost exclusively but they dropped most of their large lines several years ago.
Anyone have any recommendations?
I don’t know if they come in your size, but hub wears a 15E and swears by Hush Puppies Zero G’s Glen. He says they’re so light he doesn’t even know he’s wearing shoes…and that’s saying something for 15’s.
If you’ve the funds, hie thee to a proper shoemaker.
Re decent quality shoes Rockports will come in a variety of sizes and widths. New Balance also makes athletic shoes in your size and with. Manufacturers outlets are a good place to find a wide variety of sizes at discounted prices.,

I feel your pain from the other side. I wear a 6 1/2 in mens. I have the same trouble finding decent shoes.
I have never worn a shoe that fit. I have unusually short feet, as far as I can tell; see, any shoe that is as long as my foot is too narrow for me to fit my foot inside, and any shoe broad enough is a couple of inches too long, at best.
I wear only a 10.5EEEE, and the only shoes I can wear are New Balance. And even some of them don’t fit right. You may need to get a customized insert.

Zappos pays for the return shipping. It’s painless and great selection. Some shoes are in stock up to size 20. And for the small feet, they carry down to a size 3 in men’s shoes on some brands and styles.
As far as shoes? Hush Puppies seems to make the best-fitting, most comfortable shoes around, IMHO.

If you want to wear athletic shoes there are normally a few good stores in every city that have people who spend time to get you in the right shoes for your feet and body. Even though you just walk running shoes are very good for padding , some of them have a lot of padding. Saucony is a good brand to look at. New Balance is also good and they have their own stores with people who can help you find the right shoes.
I’ve worn New Balance for years and it’s still my preferred brand of shoe. The nice thing about New Balance is that several years ago they bought Dunham and incorporated the sizing range and materials into those models. That expanded their range out of athletic shoes and into boots, casual shoes, steel toe and other protective shoes, and so on.
Thanks for all the tips. I’ll check them out. I use New Balance sneakers but I also like the feel of “real shoes” for longer walks.
