Who has filed their tax return?

I’m still waiting for one W-2 and the interest statement from my credit union. As soon as I get those, I’ll file (1040EZ, bay-bee).

Exactly. I get a small refund every year, so I always file ASAP.

I will wait until April 18 - no point paying them before I have to.

The thing that always causes me to have to wait to file are investments. Mutual fund companies are always really slow to send 1099 forms. This year looks to be no exception.

Sure! Though I’m a little surprised - I always found it easier to do taxes first, then FAFSA, because you can use the former to help fill in answers for the latter.

Yeah, went to H&R Block Monday for their ‘free’ EZ preperation… but because I have a small 401K, it cost me $74. I was not happy.

Getting about $800 from fedeal but owe state $245 because my employer made a mistake.

Again, not happy.

Vanguard is pretty quick about this. Just sayin’.

That’s true. Vanguard is the only company whose forms I’ve got so far.

ETA: Actually, that’s not completely true: My 401k is with Vanguard, and there was a technical issue last year which will require them to send a 1099-R this year (and some of it will be taxable). I haven’t got that yet.

We finally got our W2s today, so I did mine on my lunch break. Unfortunately evidently they won’t be processing refunds until mid-February?

ETA - you can do them if you use software and TurboTax or whoever will hold onto it for you. I always do it ASAP so I don’t forget or lose forms or whatever. And no, I don’t have a particularly simple tax situation - no real investments but I do itemize and have a mortgage.

For the first time ever, I’ll have a bit of income from investments and am still sorting out the meanings of long-term and short-term capital gain, FIFO, taxation on dividends and distributions, etc. I’m going to assume that Turbo Tax knows the right questions to ask and that the broker documents make it easy to find the answers.

So, waiting until mid-February for the brokers’ statements to be issued.

Still waiting on W2 and will be filing on my pension pay.

Also, I did work 6 hours for less than $100.00. At what point does an employer NOT have to send a W2?

Thanks

PS: singLe claiming one

I got my W2 today and am waiting until payday to file – I only owe a tiny bit ($15) but am kinda broke until Friday. But I did all the paperwork as soon as I got home, I wanted to know if I’d have to owe like I did last year!

On the other hand, I’m getting $72 back from the state.

That’s pretty damn close to breaking even which makes me happy.

No state income tax in my state so I only have federal. Waiting on one W-2 for my husband and we’re good to go.

evilbeth, I never knew about state income tax until I was sixteen and we moved to California from Texas, where I’d lived for ten years.

Lucky you.

Yup! Final filing for online returns in the UK is 31st January, and I feel quite pleased to have got it done.

Yeah, except for that whole almost 10% sales tax. I was shocked when I found out that not all states tax groceries!

Hell, I’ve only received one tax form so far (a W2). Only about a half-dozen left to go.

I don’t think I’ve ever gotten everything I need before the very very very end of January.

Early filers in Georgia got a nasty shock when the state deposited refunds into people’s bank accounts and then yanked them back again a couple of days later because of a mistake in calculating the original amounts. Now they have to handle compensating people who suffered NSF fees as a result, although at least one bank (Wells Fargo) has said they will reimburse the fees themselves.

I’ve filled out all the forms and am ready to efile but I won’t until I can convince the wife to get a new dryer with the refund. I have to say I didn’t think this would be difficult but she has other ideas.
