Juneau, Alaska to Johannesburg, South Africa: 10,054 miles/16,180 km
When I was born (nearly 50 years ago), my mom lived in the same house I’m living in now. I’ve been married for nearly 28 years, come the 30th of this month. I ventured away for many years, but I ended up right back here.
Groningen, The Netherlands, to Antigua, Guatemala: 5707 miles. Don’t think I’m going to beat that any time soon.
Not very far at all. The greatest distance seems to be from Loma Linda, Ca to Mykonos, Greece (6939.41 miles).
Mankato, Minnesota, to Aqaba, Jordan, 6421 miles/10,334 km.
Silver Spring, Maryland to Flinders Chase, South Australia: 10,596 miles/17,052 km.
Good for third place, so far!
~7400 miles: Pittsburgh to Lihue, HI
Chatham, New Brunswick to Canberra, Australia
10484 miles
London, UK => Te Anau, NZ: 11,731.93, 18,880.19 KM
Not me but one of my uncles never got more than 100 miles from his home in his life.
Johnstown, PA to Johannesburg, South Africa, 8220 miles.
John, Johanne, it’s all the same, innit?
I’ve got cousins that are similar. They’ve been to Boston, 140 miles away, and Albany, much closer. My first time in Schenectady, NY at the age of six months took me further from my birthplace in Maryland that some of my cousins have ever been.
Poughkeepsie, NY
West to Taipei, TW: 7,715 miles
East to Karatu, TZ: 7,372 miles
That number doesn’t look right. One of the distances I checked for mine was Poughkeepsie (which is east of Pittsburgh) to Princeville (just north of Lihue), and it’s less than 5,000 miles.
From Georgia (USA) to Palau (Micronesia) - 8457 miles.
I’ll try to do better.
-D/a
Born Ballarat, Australia - visited as far as Boston, US. Distance of 10565 miles, or 17002km.
Looks like maximising this number has a lot to do with having been to Australia at some point.
Another Aussie.
Melbourne -> New York
10,352.30 miles.
Moved MPSIMS --> IMHO.
I’ll let someone else calculate the distance.
No one has pointed it out, but the circumference of the Earth is about 25,000 miles. Anyone approaching 12,500 miles is going to win.
Looks like jjimm at 18,890 Kms (11,737 miles) is going to be really hard to beat.
Any Brit who’s been to New Zealand - which is not unlikely - will have a similar distance. For geographical/oceanic reasons quite easy for us to achieve. Looking at http://www.antipodr.com/ it’s a bit more difficult for Americans to achieve - however I think a New Yorker who’s been to Perth may be in the running.
Not the farthest, but I am still impressed:
Ithaca, NY to Port Arthur, Tasmania 10,225 miles
