I feel that turkey, like coffee, undergoes some drastic modification in its chemical composition once it cools from its initial toasty temperature.
The mere thought of a turkey sandwich turns my stomach. Even if it’s cooked again and shows up as a clandestine bit-part in a future dish, I can detect its old-turkey flavor.
Turkey lunchmeats don’t have this flavor. Perhaps they are so filled with preservatives and flavorings that it cannot show its true colors, but I am not as repulesed by processed turkey.
if you hate your leftover turkey…by all means, send it to me! Leftover turkey from thanksgiving makes THE BEST “Thanksgiving Leftovers Turkey Sandwiches” mmmMMMM. I think subway should take this idea and go with it.
Cold turkey and chips (that’s fries, after conversion to dollars), with some Branston on the side. Mmmmmmm.
Or…
One Christmas, I was given a large turkey as a gift from my place of work - I roasted it a couple of days prior to Christmas, carved all the meat off, made gravy with the bones and giblets and packed it all into foil containers, immersing the meat in gravy. these I froze and used for easy Sunday dinners for the next six months (not every Sunday though).
I can only eat turkey the first time around if it has gravy, lots and lots of gravy poured on it. I can’t even think about eating any left-over turkey. GROSS.
Now ham is a whole other story… Had some of that for breakfast this morning. YUM.
