I’m watching the pre-inauguration show on TV right now. They wheeled out a big-screen TV to play a clip of Ray Charles singing America the Beautiful. I love his version of this song! I shut off my stereo which I had playing in the background. Ray starts to sing. Oh, goodie!
But then this blonde white chick struts up to the screen with mic in hand and sings with him! Who the hell is she??? “Why are you ruining this song?” I yell. “No one wants to hear you. Get off. Get off, I say!”
Of course she does not get off, but goes on singing and trying to steal some of Ray’s brilliant glow for herself. Except she does little more than embarrass herself by the comparison.
After it is over I learn her name is Mary Haskell (sp?). Again, who?
Maybe I should have put this in the Pit.
PS – My “white chick” crack was purely for theatrical effect. I am white. No offense was intended. Except to her – who should be ashamed of herself!
