There are a number of celebrities who are very cool and who use their status for great causes. I won’t bother listing them. Someone I do want to mention by name is the reporter Christiane Amanpour.

I’m going with Jimmy Buffett. Entertainer, sailor, pilot, author, popularizer of the margarita, and general all around bon vivant.
He also does vocals for an experimental hip-hop/electronic group called clipping. (the period is part of the band’s name, so I haven’t finished the sentence yet). Here is a recent performance, their weird take on NPR’s “Tiny Desk Concerts” (complete with custom-made extra-small desks).

I was going to suggest Ta-Nahesi Coates, who decided, right as his blogging career was turning into a writing career, to pack up and move to Paris to study French. Not in some fuckin-around way, either — like, hours of study a day, private tutor, struggling through Rousseau, and so on. That’s just cool to me.
It’s hard for me to rank anyone above Barack Obama, unless it’s Michelle Obama. Honorable mention to Mick Foley.
