Who is the Bitchiest/Most Hateful Sitcom Mom/Wife?

OK, so this is actually a poll, but since it’s about TV I’m going to put it here in Café Society.

So, who is the bitchiest/most hateful sitcom wife on TV? I’d like to leave out peripheral characters (such as Charlie Sheen’s mom on Two and a Half Men and keep this discussion limited to lead (or almost lead) actresses.

I’ve narrowed it down to two.
[ul]
[li]Carrie on The King of Queens. She never seems to have anything good to say to Doug, and she muddles through her life in a state of hostile exasperation. Her relationship with her father seems equally acrimonious, although she does seem to give him a twinge more patience, which isn’t saying much.[/li][li]Deb from Everybody Loves Raymond. Her character was the subject of one of the funniest lines in sticom history. One of Ray’s annoying twin boys confesses to Ray that he accidentally called his teacher “Mommy.” Ray responds, “Why? Was she yelling?” [::rimshot::] Then, later in the show, Ray’s daughter overhears Ray tell Deb “…he accidentally called his teacher ‘Mommy.’” And Ray’s daughter, Allie, says, “Why? Was she yelling?” hee hee[/li][/ul]

Any others?

There’s an all-black sitcom on UPN (it’s fairly new and may have already been cancelled, forgive me for not knowing the name of it) about a man torn between his ex-wife (who has custody of their son, and she uses this as a weapon) and his new wife (whose social ambition barely stops short of monstrous). This isn’t the one Will Smith is producing; both the women pretty much qualify.

Well, the thing is, Carrie really loves Doug and Deb loves Raymond and let’s face it, both can be real schmucks sometimes. I get your point, though.

My pick would be the wife in Unhappily Ever After. A lot of you probably never heard of it, but it was some dopey syndicated show that starred Nikki Cox and Bobcat Goldwait as the voice of a stuffed bunny. I only saw a few eps, but the wife was nasty and mean spirited and didn’t seem to even like her husband, much less love him.

BTW, I loved it when Allie asked if the teacher was yelling!

Weren’t they divorced in Unhappily…? I never could quite figure that whole mess out. Not that I spent a lot of time on it. But I thought they were divorced, yet he lived in the basement for reasons unknown.

Peggy Bundy

Surely George’s parents in Seinfeld win any hateful contest.

HeyHomie, you inspired me to make this pitt thread:

Lois on Malcom in the Middle is a complete raving harpy.

Of course, that’s part of her appeal!

Roseanne

I win.

Peggy Hill is certainly the most annoying…

Deb bitches so much that I’ve stopped watching that show, seriously. Bitch bitch bitch! She is always pissed off about something; if I were Ray I’d leave her ass. What a harpy!

What about Endora on Bewitched? She’s pretty horrible to Durwood.

You sure do. The creepy thing is it doesn’t appear that she acted at all on that show.

Jophiel, I think they seperated and he moved out, then back in. I could be wrong. It was an awful show, but it aired before reruns of DS9 where I lived years ago, so I often caught the last five minutes or so.

Yep, Roseanne wins the biggest bitch award…

(and I may be going back too far for most of you guys)
and then there’s Maude my god what a bitch she was

Anyone else recall this line from a husband to his wife?:

I’m fed up with you, you rancorous coiffeured old sow. Why don’t you syringe the doughnuts out of your ears and get some sense into that dormant organ you keep hidden in that rat’s maze of yours?

OK, that’s a quote from an old show, but the series runs constantly on PBS. Bonus points if you can ID the episode as well as the actors.

(I know it’s an easy one, I just love that line)

I could actually watch Roseanne…and enjoy the show

but that goddamned Maude made me want to shoot the fucking TV

The way she made Walter out to be a friggin worm…always screaming at someone, always pissed off about something…she and Archie B. going at it like cats and dogs. Any o’ y’all remember Bea Arthur?

"Fawlty Towers" w/ Basil Fawlty (Cleese) and his wife Sybil (Prunella Scales)

Here ya go…Fawlty Towers

OK, you win, t-keela, but I’ll go you one better with an ID of the episode in question.

(I’m awake against my will right now, thanks for the chat)

Marie Barone on Everybody Loves Raymond. Heaven help anyone if she ever loses her own control over that family.
