Until I looked at the sports section this morning, I couldn’t have named either of the teams in the finals.
I knew that all 4 of the final 4 were number 1 seeds, but couldn’t have identified any of them other than to guess by naming traditionally strong programs.
I understand North Carolina was one of them, because I heard over the weekend that they had gotten killed.
No idea who the 4th was.
I’ve at least got you tied. I heard from my wife and on NPR this morning that that Memphis is in the final four and that it’s a big deal that they are, but other than that I couldn’t tell you squat.
I don’t even know what a “seed” is. Is this tournament still going on? I vaguely know that it’s basketball-related and happens in March (er… doesn’t it? It’s April now so maybe I’m wrong about that) but that is the limit of my knowledge.
I used to love watching college basketball when I was a student, but only my school’s team. Once I graduated, I think I followed it for one more season.
I’m a pretty big sports guy, love me some baseball and football, hockey is a good one too but I don’t like basketball. At all. And having grown up in the Chicago suburbs where there’s plenty of pro teams to devote time to and having gone to college where they didn’t even have sports teams (I think) I don’t care in the least about college sports either unless it concerns Notre Dame, who have sucked for a really long time too. Put those two things together and presto, I couldn’t care less about college basketball.
When I was in college, I was pretty much all over college and pro hoops and football. In college and several years into my career I ran NCAA brackets. But, as my kids grew and interests changed, the sports dropped off one-by-one. Early entry to the pros caused a huge hit to my interest in college sports, as free agency did for the pros.
I wonder if I watched a single minute’s worth of football and hoops over the past year. If so, it undoubtedly was at someone else’s house, like on Thanlsgiving. I often find it interesting how much even your strongest interests can change at different stages of your life.
I’m a three-sport fan. Basketball is not one of those sports. Also, I don’t follow college sports. When the news announced that all 4 teams were #1 seeds, my first thought was, “There are 4 division?” My second thought was, “Where’s the remote?”
I know about as much as you do. Back when I was a grad student at UNC, my students used to tell me about it, but now? I can happily ignore the whole thing.
