So this Darlene Edmunds person goes before international news outlets to say that she hopes that her EX-husband doesn’t get interrogated because he’s chock full o’ the kind of information that the Chineese Government would be thrilled to have.
She then tells CNN…

It’s as if this poor guys’ ex** wants him to be INTERROGATED**. And the international media is INSURING that it happens! What an evil, spiteful bitch.
I’ll grant that this woman doesn’t earn many points for brains assuming she really doesn’t want her SO to be tortured.
That said I doubt she did any real damage. The Chinese will NOT interrogate that aircrew in anything more than a polite talk to. If, as the situation currently stands, we find that our crews were abused or worse there will be hell to pay.
If for some reason this whole thing progresses on to much worse things then they are all screwed. I have no doubt that if this were war, for instance, every member of that aircrew would be interrogated…violently. These aren’t some anonmymous foot soldiers captured walking around a jungle. The Chinese know every one of them came off of an intelligence gathering plane which, ipso facto, makes them all valuable sources of information.
Also, her bit about being trained to not divulge information is bullshit. I read an interview with a former Green Beret who spent time as a POW and he said you can absolutely forget the notion of holding out on your captors. Given time, patience and a little know how they will extract information from anyone (and I bet the Chinese have this experience in spades).
So, she may be stupid but I doubt she did any actual harm.

I’ve seen too many Naval Officers loose their careers to the behavior of the spouse. The reasoning goes: You can’t fire or discipline the spouse, you can’t discipline the officer for thier spouse’s behavior, but you can’t allow the behavior to continue. Therefore, if the officer in question can’t get their spouse to behave, then they’re both gone. Problem solved. Inall likely-hood, when Miss Runningoffatthemouth’s husband returns, he’ll be having a nice conversation with his CO and NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) about his wife flapping-off in public.
Not to nitpick, but the OP says that this woman is the captive’s EX-wife. I don’t know what else the military would expect this guy to do with a moron like this other than divorce her ass, which he’s already done.
Ok. Granted that the Ex-wife is either intensly stupid or very vindictive, what about the International Press for using her quotes? I am all for the freedom of the press, but can’t it be said that they could easly do this man signifigant harm by publishing this information with his name? You know the Chineese version of the CIA is watching for this sort of thing. And I am not sure the Chineese government would be so hesitant to use some heavy interrogation tactics here, if not outright torture. All they would have to do is deny, and claim that the prisoners claims of torture were politicaly motivated.
