Lloyd Blankfein of Goldman Sachs certainly knows who I am. Jim Watson of DNA knew who I was 10 years ago, but he might not remember me now at his advanced age.

I when to high school with a couple of future NHL players, at least two of which had long careers. I’m friends with a coulple of successful alpine and nordic ski racers, and one of my college roommates went to two Olympics as a ski jumper.

The most famous person I’m most close with is one of the original members of the Squirrel Nut Zippers. We were good buddies while he was in the band and continue to be friends.
The other members of the Zippers and also Ben Folds would know me if I described how we know each other.
Mike Hargrove, former manager of the Cleveland Indians (also known as “The Human Rain Delay”) would know me after some explanation. I won a charity auction and got to watch a game in a suite with him, and 9 of my friends. Awesome, awesome dude and his wife Sharon is awesome too.
That reminds me - Richard Stallman knows me, though not through anything directly computer related. He nearly got kicked out of a listserv group we’re both participants in (music, not IT related) for his incessant free software tirades.
There are at least a couple of former U.S. Representatives, a Senator and a Cabinet Secretary who would likely recognize my name. A few politicos in Texas state politics as well.
But if I had to go be “real” fame – I doubt she’d remember my name, but I had some memorable early career interactions Omarosa Manigault Newman.
I met him back in about 1983 or so, but I doubt he’d remember me now. He wanted to make a movie out of a story I wrote and published. We never reached an agreement, but if he remembers my story and still wants to make a movie out of it, I’d be open to talking about it again.
One current US Attorney, one former Acting US Attorney, and two current Assistant US Attorneys. Not particularly famous, but I see their names in the news when a big case comes along.
One cousin who’s a moderately well-known actress with a Best Actress Golden Globe. Was in several TV series and several very well regarded movies.
If Sonny Barger was still alive, he might remember me. We had an intimate moment and then the next day I hit him in the nutz with a tire iron.
So he “knew” me and then I made sure he remembered me.
My great uncle was a fairly famous writer, but we only met once, so I doubt that counts.
I know the current White House correspondent of a major newspaper. He and I worked on the student newspaper together in college, when I was a news editor and he was a cub reporter, and we’ve stayed in touch off and on since then. Very smart and a very nice guy.
