Celebrities you KNOW

and I don’t mean, a random meeting on the plane, or things like that. For Example, I wenrt to college with Kevin Williamson (writer of ‘Scream’, producer/(creator?) of ‘Dawson’s Creek’), and Sandra Bullock. Also (and most importantly) Kurt Engstrom, the guy who played the security guard on the game show ‘Debt’

How about it… and other dopers with good connections?

I used to hang out with Tom Rhodes, who had his own sit com for about 6 months. But he is back to being a nobody now. And my cousin is currently married to Tom Arnold.

as a child/youth, I went to the same church as Christine Lahti. She and her sister Linda were always getting mistaken for my sister Liz and I (all 4 of us were short, long hair, females within 2 years of age of each other)

In about 8th grade, Scott Schwartz (“The Toy,” also the kid who gets his tongue stuck to flag pole in “A Christmas Story”) was in my bowling league. That’s about it for me.

Well, I post to a message board with a really cool ex-rock star from the 60’s (whom I’m secretly in awe of) and fantastic female author (who I secretly envy for both her wit and looks). Probably more, I just don’t know about them.

Neil McCoy. He comes in my aunt’s restaurant all the time.

When I was in high school as a freshman, one of the seniors there was Angus Davis, who has since gone on to work for Netscape (high-up stuff) and start tellme.com . . . sort-of like a really cool 411-type thing.

One of my aunts has a weekly column in a FLA newspaper and an uncle is a mystery writer.

I worked the Ren Faire with Bill Campbell (The Rocketeer, Dracula) back before he got famous.

My husband flys the news helicopter for Channel 13 in Des Moines - does that count?

My mom’s godfather was Erle Stanley Gardiner (of Perry Mason fame). He and my grandfather were close buddies. In fact, my grandfather’s first wife became Erle’s second. Didn’t hurt the friendship though.

In my freshman year of high school, I went to Long Beach Polytechnic High, in Long Beach, CA. Yes, for that one precious year, I was in school with Snoop Doggy-Dogg.

I once smoked a joint with the blues musician James Cotton.

A cousin of mine is one of the biggest politicians in Kentucky.

I know a fair amount of Indiana politicos, thought that is a natural consequence of one of my jobs.

My ex-girlfriends mom slept with Neil Diamond. I know Alexander Cockburn, Steve Albini (he was friends with a friend), all the members of Idiot Flesh (who are friends with the residents and penn and teller), Jeno, Wayne Theibaud, knew Bob Arneson when he was alive, one of the lead animators from Bug’s Life and Toy Story 2 (he was a minor animator in Toy Story),Jeff Maguire (who wrote In the Line of Fire), my dad knows Pete Townsend, and my mom’s friends with the owner of Morton Salt, oh and I know Timpothy Busfield (from thirtysomething and a buch of movies). That’s about it, although I’ve also casually met and served (in my capacities as waiter) a number of NorCal celebrities.

Do you mean “KNOW” in the Biblical sense?

Well, I work with the guy who draws “Maxine”, you know the crotchity old gal on the Shoebox cards? You probably would if you were a middle aged to older woman. Thats the main demographic. I’ve seen videos of these older women going absolutely batshit over this guy. Crazy. Gets tons of fan-mail every year. Hell, I even got his autograph for my mom.
She loves it.

I’m friends with Mike Lukas. He’s a stand-up comedian (been on Jay Leno twice, Conan O’Brien about a month ago). And his biggest claim to fame: He was the host of A&E’s short-lived “The Straight Dope” television show.

He’ll be really famous soon, then you’ll know him…

My mother used to know the author of the bestselling book Expecting Adam (a book which I have not fully read yet, hell, that might not even be the title)

And my dad plays conga drums in a band whose keyboard player (Chris Mozar, or possibly Zomar, something like that) used to be in Cherry Poppin’ Daddies.

As for me, I don’t know anybody famous personally, but when I’m a rich and famous millionare, you guys can all say that you know me.

My cousin is the premier of a province that I won’t name. Just in case someone on the board is from there and pissed at him.

My dad did some work for Bret Hart’s aunt, back when he was the WWF champ. So she invited us over to have supper with him since she knew I was a fan. Man, Bret Hart looks smaller, but he was really big. He also ate about 4 or 5 platefuls of food. I was impressed.

Hmmm…well, I know a lot of movie folk. I often see one of my friend’s names on TV credits, she works as a 2nd AD, usually. Another friend worked on “Star Trek:TNG”. Yet another friend, (David Baca) worked on various shows, and was a costumer for The Oscars, but was tragically consumed by AIDS several years ago. For those of you who are Bette Midler fans, David designed this mermaid costume for Bette years ago, apparently it was a great costume. Bette treated him terribly, though…but that’s another tangent.

Have had some semi-famous art teachers, like Burne Hogarth (of the old “Tarzan” comics fame), Virginia Cartright (famous potter) and Jim Morphesis (famous painter.)

I have seen an old friend and former co-worker’s husband, Gary, on this infomercial about how you can make money selling satellite dishes. There are others, I can’t think of them now.

In terms of famous people who know who I am,
my list includes a local newscaster, a local
very vocal activist and his wife (who is one
of the nicest people I have ever met), three
members of music groups and a football player.

My grandmother lived next door to Art Ferrante, of the Ferrente & Teicher piano duo (think Exodus and all sorts of semi-classical, soft pop, and cinema/show piano tunes). They had about 50 albums or so. We ate dinner over there every so often.

wow! that’s pretty damn cool. do you know where he is teaching now?

and i would hardly consider tv crewmembers celebrities.
