Who is this soul singer?

Caught the end of a TV show a while back, don’t remember if it was late night or daytime talk show but one of those where they have a musical number to end the show. Well, there was this young black guy singing honest to god SOUL music. I’m talkin’ soul as in Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Wison Pickett, etc. It was an original song but you could tell without a doubt where he got his influence. Didn’t have a pencil nearby so I couldn’t write down his name. That’s okay, sez me, I’ll remember it because it’s unique. Yeah, right. This old fart promptly forgot the guy’s name. All I can remember is that it was indeed unique. A single name. Something like Quadafi or Kumali or something that sounded kind of middle easten. Anybody know the singer?

Is it Raphael Saadiq?

This is the song that sure caught my ear: Let’s Take A Walk.

Savannah, I love you baby! That’s my man!

He reminds me of–this is hard to describe–the nerdy guy on Conan O’Brien who had lots of angry opinions about Stargate: Atlantis and related shows.

Here’s another old-style soul singer if you like that kind of thing - Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. Jim and I are getting a lot of good new artists from watching the end of Letterman and Craig Ferguson.

Yes, yes, yes! I like it. Little girl got a big voice and some cool moves. And those Dap Kings are one tight band. Thank you for the heads up.
