Seems like, as I had expected, the Spanish translations of the smurfs’ names were all fucked up.
The guy you call brainy was mistranslated as philosopher smurf. I really hated that snotty, overly verbose dude. Actually, I felt bad for the little guy; he was too smart and presumptuous for his own good. In any case, both names are appropriate descriptions for the tiny blue intellectual.
The guy I referred to as Genius is the one called Handy. Once again, both names provide a good characterization of his abilities.
The one I called strong is Hefty. No confusions there.
With those clarifications having being made, I proceed to restate my two favorites smurfs, plus a late addition:
Handy,
Hefty, and
Astro.
I had never heard of this guy. I just found out about him after reading GuanoLad’s nice link. Boy, does that smurf look
with that astronaut suit, or what?. I wonder, in what episode could he have appeared? My best WAG is the one where one of the smurfs wanted to go to another planet and Handy built him a fake rocket which, thanks to the sound effects and back-and-forth pushing provided by the other smurts, simulated the experience of space flight. To make for the impression that he was indeed on an alien planet, the smurfs altered the scenario in the vicinity of the rocket to mirror a desolated, exogenous-looking place, much like the moon.
In any case, I believe that wasn’t Astro, but Dreamer (soñador in spanish; the guy who used to be day-dreaming about experiencing fascinating adventures). Once again, translations may differ.
Any one out there can help me find more detailed info regarding this elusive, yet totally cool, Astro Smurf?
How about matching up smurfs with dopers? For example, it is pretty clear that Papa Smurf would be the equivalent of Cecil Adams, the former being the supreme leader of the Smurf Village, and the latter the undisputed intellectual guide of the SDMB’s ignorance fightin’ tribe.
Any other matches you can think of?
I wonder, what could I ask Santa Claus Smurf for Christmas?
