I don’t know how to trace an internet idea, bit I would wager it started from someone on Facebook making a joke, and the third person reading it being willing to believe the worst of that pompous windbag.

(I listened to Limbaugh once, maybe twenty years ago. he was doing a routine on “Politically Correct Numbers,” where yuo can’t say 3 because people might think youare promoting Christianity etc. When he missed the obvious joke about 7 (it is disrespectful to Little People becaus eof the connection to Snow White) I turned him off. If I can write better material I donot listen any more.)

Too late for edit, but I admit to not being a political news junkie, so this board is the only place I encountered this story, and it seems to have disappeared as quickly as most any other unfounded rumour.

I might be wrong here, but Limbaugh apparently played some sort of parody song to the tune of “I shot the sheriff”? Lyrics like “I’m not a sheriff, but I play one in Pima County”? If that’s the case, it’s easy to see how somebody who recognized the melody but didn’t listen to the words might make a false report.

Just wondering how far it went.

When I saw the word “misreported” I assumed it was reported by somebody whose job is to report things as opposed to some yahoo (like myself frequently).

Sorry, only on that one thread. (I made absolutely no effort to track it any further, as I neither support anything Limbaugh says nor care enough to shake my head sadly at what he says. It is possible that I agree with many of his opinions, but I cannot listen to the blowhard.)

Don’t worry, even on the occasions when he serves up a tiny nugget of correctness, he smothers it in sweet failsauce. It’s been so long since I’ve heard him to remember specifics, but it’s sort of like if he were to rebuke the moon hoax believers who say that men should have sunk into 30 feet of lunar dust by saying that they couldn’t have sunk into anything because they landed on firm green cheese.
