Who pays $20,000 for a set of souped-up "propeller clocks?"

Bright boys looking to pimp their rides, apparently.

Eesh. Now, even conventional “spinners” remind me of nothing so much of eight-year-olds making their bikes all “ass-kicky and cool” by the addition of baseball cards through the spokes – but I’ve got to admit, that is some damned fine mechanical scanning, even if the application is a little misguided.

I’ve been wanting to make a MS display for a while now – but I’ll feel lame if it isn’t multicoloured.

I guess setting the whole thing in nice heavy rims driven by a couple hundred horses makes the whole stability thing a lot easier to engineer, anyway.

But dammit, mechanical scanning is the rightful domain of geeks and hobbyists. It is definitely not supposed to be associated with “bling.” That’s just wrong.

Can you imagine how distracting that would be to the driver of the car in the next lane?

I’ve seen those on cabs, but instead of “cool” images, they’re ads for movies or something. They’re weighted or something so the image stays right side up - cool idea for creating new ad space, but on an individual’s car? Um, okay…
