Me and my mother just got the second dose of the Moderna vaccine two days ago. Aside from our shoulders being sore we haven’t had any side effects yet. The management company that runs our subsidized housing project had a clinic for qualified people at one of their properties (She is 73 and I am 45. They said I qualified because I am one of her caregivers).
Got #1 of Pfizer yesterday from my wife’s doctor. She’s vaccinating 40+. According to the nurse, when they were following state guidelines (55+ currently), they were having to do too many “use-it-up” call-ins, so they shifted to get a bigger pool.
Very efficient operation. Pulled up, stayed in the car. A person came by with a little checklist I had to fill out and verified my name was on ‘the list’. She then put one of those little plastic round athletic field markers (flat cone looking thing) on the hood to hold down my vacc card. About 2 minutes later, lady comes by, asks me to open the car door and let my arm hang down. Pop! Set a little kitchen timer to 15 minutes and put it on the car. They came by at about 7-8 minutes, checked on me. Came back when the timer went off, checked again, collected their stuff, gave me my card and confirmed my 2nd shot appointment, and I was done. Total elapsed time was less than 25 minutes and I never left the car. Felt a little “off” last night and my arm is sore, but other than that, no reactions yet.
I brought my dog (80 lb. lab mix) with me and she made lots of new friends! Every one of the staff would say hi and/or give her a quick pet as they walked by my car servicing other people. One of them thanked me for bringing her.
Overall a very positive experience. I was impressed.
Edit to add: 52 yo (53 in a month) male in case anybody’s interested.
Moderna shot #1 today! Shot #2 scheduled for 4/16.
My state has sucked hard in regards to the vaccination process, but the actual location where I got my shot (had to drive 1.5 hours) was extremely well run. Including the 15 minute post-vaccine observation time, I was in and out in 20 minutes and socially distanced from other vaccine recipients the entire time.
Got the first Pfizer yesterday. Didn’t even realize I was qualified until all the jokes about “Smoke-100-Cigarettes Challenge!” were bandied about, but only took a day after that to get the shot. I knew smoking would pay off someday! (Luckily, I quit about 15 years ago - but I’m still about 30,000 cigarettes over-qualified for NC Group 4.)
Second dose of Pfizer today. Yay!!
I just got my first dose of Pfizer today, but was a bit taken aback when the pharmacist squeezed my arm before injecting. I thought they weren’t supposed to do that for an IM shot. Though I did notice the pharmacist grabbed a wide portion of my arm - so like she was grabbing the deltoid muscle while pulling up. Still led to me freaking out for a bit that I didn’t get it right.
Seriously, anyone who’s ever worked a job waiting tables has hit a 100 cigarettes. A friend of mine thought she didn’t qualify until I let her know the smoking threshold. She cleared that just bumming cigarettes in college.
I got my first Moderna today! The same urgent care place that does my company’s flu shot clinic every year called my office and asked if we wanted to do a covid vaccine clinic. I think almost everyone who hadn’t already had their vaccine signed up. They’re coming back on 4/16 for our second doses. It was, of course, all socially distanced and appointments were spaced out, but it was fun to see coworkers that I haven’t seen for over a year except on Zoom.
Moderna #1 yesterday afternoon. Arranged through workplace. Nursing a quite sore arm today.
I’ve noticed this in photos, and my thigh was squeezed like this for my shots. Haven’t read anything to suggest why.
My guess would be to make a longer length of muscle for the needle. You’re squeezing the muscle into a lump for the injection.
The issue may be that you are potentially expanding the level of subcutaneous fat and the needle doesn’t make it to the muscle at all. Perhaps there is a wide grasp technique that does make a longer length of muscle?
I just set up my 2nd Pfizer dose for Tuesday afternoon. The schedule for next week went online at midnight. I pulled it up at 12:03 and checked my preferred location. Monday would have been my 21st day but all 900 slots for that day were already taken. Damn. I didn’t expect them to go that fast. Tuesday is fine, of course, and I can’t wait to get this done.
I got my second dose of Pfizer yesterday. The injector commented on my 70 minute drive, saying she was flattered someone traveled that far. The injection site is more painful than after the first, but it’s still minor.
I put pickled jalapeños in my breakfast wrap. My gf saw me perspiring and thought I had a fever.
The wife has an appointment for her first Pfizer shot next week. They have not reached her age group yet, early 60s, but everyone in the condominium office she works in has been classified an essential worker.
Had my first jab yesterday morning, and boy do I feel like shit today! What with all the sweating and the shivering and the soreness and the pounding headache I only got about two hours sleep last night. Tylenol has taken the edge off it but I still feel rough. Obviously, I feel about a thousand times better than I would feel if I had COVID, but if you haven’t had your shot yet make sure you have some painkillers on hand and drink plenty of water!
I was surprised on Tuesday by an email telling to that I could make an appointment from my health provider. Since I work in IT, I am considered kind of essential worker adjacent, but I did not think I would be able to get my first dose for another few weeks at least. I logged in and signed up for an appointment for the next day.
Getting the shot went smoothly, they had someone at the entrance to check your id and provide you a card recording the first dosage as well as someone to make your next appointment. Then I was directed to a station where a nurse gave me my first Pfizer shot who then directed me to a separate room for me to stay for 15 minutes for observation.
After that, I was just waiting a bit and then going home. I had no adverse reaction, just a bit of soreness at the injection site for a few days, which I expected being the case since it is an intramuscular shot. By a strange coincidence my brother also got his first dose of Moderna, on the same day at around the same time, even though we live miles apart.

My son got his second shot today, which makes us a fully-vaccinated household. Woo-hoo!
It’s been 24 hours since I got my second Pfizer shot, and no apparent side effects so far, and no side effects last time except maybe for a little bit of soreness. My wife gets her second shot next week. There was literally no wait yesterday, either. I was at the front of the line from when I walked in. Even though I’m in tier 1b because of volunteering at a food pantry, as of two weeks ago my entire neighborhood, without restriction, is eligible to be vaccinated due to the Chicago Protect Plus program, which prioritizes the hardest-hit neighborhoods.
I got my second Pfizer on Feb 20. Spousal got the J&J on Mar 19, after the state let the under-65 with certain conditions get shot.
My daughter is a teacher in a small private school - she was vaccinated this summer. Her husband works on the Navy base in this county - he had his first Moderna last week - he thinks the base will reopen for semi-normal operation in April.
My mom and my inlaws have all been vaccinated - ages 87-91 among them.
I got my first dose (Moderna) last Thursday - the county I live in recently lowered the minimum age to 50
