Illinois recently opened up vaccination to people in higher ed, so I got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine this morning. They had the local hospital set up to vaccinate lots of people, and the whole procedure was quick, easy, and well-organized.
My arm feels slightly sore—which could be partly psychosomatic. I was told it’ll be sore tomorrow, and I could experience chills and fever.
Too bad the whole country can’t have one coordinated website like that, so people can pick a site close to home rather that driving several hours away to wherever they can randomly find appointments. If only there had been the better part of a year to coordinate this stuff among all the levels of government…oh wait.
Got my first (AstraZeneca) the day before yesterday.
Side effects were not pleasant - started about 12 hours in and lasting about 24 hours - feeling like I had been kicked all over; felt better after that and back to normal now.
That’s pretty tame I suppose, in the grand scheme of things, but it’s the most severe side effects I’ve experienced from a vaccine.
Mine didn’t last 4 days, but a couple of days after the shot (shot on Thur, this was Sun), I just could not get moving. Achy and tired. Ended up sleeping 12 or hours that day (considering that I normally sleep 6 hours at most, that’s a LOT for me. Still tired on Mon, but back to normal on Tue. Totally kicked my wife’s ass though, she was tired as hell for a solid 3-4 days.
2nd Pfizer is set for 4/9 (and they gave me the appointment at the time of the 1st shot). Can’t wait for that joy.
Completely randomly, I got a call from my sister, who got a recorded call from our shared medical provider, saying they have vaccination appointments available this week. So I called the number they left her. They never asked if I’m eligible, just whether I could come in today.
So if things go well, I will get a first jab on or after 1PM today. I didn’t ask which vaccine it will be.
I got my first shot of the Moderna vaccine this morning and I’m scheduled to go out for my second shot on April 27. No side effects, I feel perfectly fine.
I’m aware of studies making that claim, but as far as I know the actual recommendations from the CDC haven’t changed, nor have I heard of any vaccination sites using that as a guideline.
CVS in a small town. No line whatsoever. I asked if people weren’t showing up for their second shots and they said no, people were coming in, but they’d gotten the process to work a lot more smoothly. There was somebody coming up behind me as I left the shot area.
I am pretty sleepy. Is the cause of this 1) that I went to bed too late last night 2) a reaction to the vaccine 3) a reaction to relief at having had the vaccine 4) the result of my having read that some people react to the second Pfizer by being really sleepy? Choose any one, or up to four –
(Hope this doesn’t post twice. It hung up so long on “saving” that I copied it (which worked, though I was copying something in pale grey that didn’t seem to be quite there) and then refreshed the page; at which point the page showed up as if it hadn’t posted, with an earlier version of my post in the reply box – at first I thought it just wasn’t complete, but I’d also changed a word and the old version was what was showing.)
I really have to look up cites that the vaccines may have different effectiveness against different variants? I have to point out the word “could” in your cites?
