Who saw "The Last Castle" just because Robert Redford was in it?

In my opinion, the movie wasn’t that good, and the action didn’t get started till the second half of the movie. But none of that bothered me cause Robert Redford (be still my heart) was in it. I know he’s in his sixties but when he took his shirt off for the rock dragging scene, he’s still got it going on. He’s got quite a bit of sun damage on his face, but at least he didn’t try to cover it all up with heavy makeup. I thought he did a good job with the material he had to work with, but seriously, I saw the movie because he’s still one of the handsomest, most charming men I’ve ever seen on the big screen. The actor who played James Gandolfini’s chief aide (can’t recall his name) was quite handsome, but didn’t do as much for me as good ol’ Bob. I guess it’s time for me to confess how shallow I am that I’ll see a movie and like it because of my baser instincts. Maybe I’ll see the movie again . . .

Come on, dopers, throw me a bone and reinforce my contention that Robert Redford still has it goin’ on. Okay, how about just the female dopers admit that sometimes they go see movies they don’t particularly enjoy just to see some traditional eye candy? Please don’t make me beg . . .please?

Okay. I’ll bite. I saw “Enemy at the Gates” just because Jude Law was in it.

Fun fact: I have less than 10 posts on these forums, and 2 of them are about Jude Law.

I’m sorrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
but Redford and that "WART’ of his JUST DOES NOTHING FOR ME.

BLEECCHHHHHHHHHHH

In fact he just plain grosses me out big time…
and once again…

BLEECCHHHHHHHHHH

Robert Redford has very little appeal for most movie goers any more, and Warren Beatty has less… but no one in Hollywood seems to grasp that, so rest assured, we’ll be seeing more “Havana” and “Ishtar” fiascos in years to come.

Incidentally, considering that “The Castle” is set in a prison, wouldn’t you think that… oh, I dunno… that maybe 1 or 2 of the inmates would be… well, BAD people, perhaps?

I haven’t seen it and I doubt if I will. The premiss sound too silly to deal with. What could a Major General (a division commander- two stars) or a Lieutenant General (an Army corps commander-three stars) conceivably do that would put him in the general population at a disciplinary barracks.

On top of that, Mrs. Gelding, the household sex-o-meter for male movie stars, tells me that Robert Redford could not make a pimple on Paul Newman’s butt on Redford’s best day.

I haven’t seen it, and I doubt that I will, because of the storyline. But I’m entitled to change my mind. Some Saturday night when I’m feeling lonely and horny, I might rent it (when it comes on video) just because of Robert Redford. Sun damage? Who cares? He’s still gorgeous and I’d do him in a minute. I admit to watching “The Sting” 3 times in one weekend recently just to drool. Spavined Gelding (Lord, I have a gelding and I haven’t heard the word spavin in years), I used to agree with Mrs. Gelding about Paul vs. Bob. But now I’m over on the Redford side. And my knees go weak when I see him without a shirt.

I like Redford because of his acting style. my wife likes to look at him but I like the emotion he sprews forth. He is one of the few actors that shows that he feels a certain way without screwing his face all up or sobbing. he just gives that blank stare. and he picks projects that let him just stand there and read lines.

come to think of it, he stinks as an actor. I guess I just like a couple of movies he was in. I heard he was in a movie about a general getting sent to prison and I thought it would be worth it. since there is no segal movie out now.

next time I accidentily eat some poison I will just rent “horse whisperer” and throw it all up.

I must admit, I go back and forth between my affection for Paul Newman and Robert Redford. I saw Newman’s last movie with Linda Fiorentino and Dermot Mulroney, “Where the Money is”. Newman plays a crook who fakes a stroke to get out of jail and into a nursing home. Linda Fiorentino plays a nurse at the nursing home who is stuck in her life and wants to break out. I won’t tell you the rest of the story, but I was well pleased when I walked out of the theater. I guess that both Paul Newman and Robert Redford have been acting for so long that I’m pretty comfortable about going to their movies. However, I didn’t go see “The Horse Whisperer”. I mean, I like some chick flicks, but that one just didn’t appeal to me.

I haven’t seen the film, but I bought the soundtrack because Jerry Goldsmith composed it. Does that count? (It’s a good score, BTW.)

Regarding Redford - he’s attractive. Even at this age. If I see the film, seeing him would be a perk.

I’d venture to guess that the only way he got it going on was by hiring a personal trainer prior to filming. I’d also venture to guess that a man that age who’s spent his life acting would not normally have such pecs.

Hence, my personal trainer theory.

I saw it, but mainly for the military stuff…yum, military stuff. My boyfriend mostly wanted to see James Gandolfini. I have to admit that during the scene where Redford takes his shirt off, I remarked “He’s pretty ripped for an old guy.”

Yeah, he’s leathery, but I’d do him waaaay before I’d do, say, Mick Jagger. He looks like he could handle it. I don’t think Paul Newman would be able to, know what I mean?

Re: there being no bad guys in the prison, I think that was part of the story line, yeah? Can you truly judge a person by their single worst act? Buy it or not, I think that’s what the story was about.

Plus, lots of stuff got blow’d up.
