Who should host The Daily Show?

He does. But I think his Angry Old Man schtick is slipping. He’s not as funny as he used to be.

I feel like he’s been phoning it in lately. (Or old age is catching up with him)

Here’s a clip from November, not that long ago.

I think Black will be one of the guest hosts coming up. Can’t remember where I read that, though.

dammit if only Charles Krauthammer was still alive.

constantly discombobulated Larry David?

Jeremy Roenick?

Black and Ronny Chieng are also slated to guest host, thought their dates are yet to be announced.

I’m looking forward to Ronny.

The difference between Ronny on TDS and Ronny on his own is like night and day.

It will be interesting to see what he does when they give him the reins.

Is it? How so?

I have no idea what to expect other than he is on that show and I saw some of his comedy routine, just in bits on youtube. I did see M3gan, a movie he is in…but that was just acting.

Just my opinion. All I can say is I’ve never laughed at anything Ronny has done on TDS.

But I did catch one of his stand ups and he had me in stitches.

Yeah, that’s why I’m not as high on Wood. I like him a lot, but I want more than just funny. Minhaj was too frenetic for me. It was like he was on speed and made me nervous watching him.

The hell? That’s a name from the past.

Maybe get Vance DeGeneres.

Or Moe Rocca?

I haven’t seen him in a long time but I like him, I’d like to see how he’d do as a guest host.

I happened to catch him a few weeks ago on some (Saturday?) morning show for kids. Can’t remember at all what exactly what or when it was.

Article giving the average viewers for the first ten hosts.

First was Al Franken, last was D. L. Hughley.

More temp news.

Here’s the lineup for the next round of guest hosts;

  • The week of April 24th: Desi Lydic
  • The week of May 1st: Dulcé Sloan
  • The week of May 8th: Michael Kosta
  • The week of May 15th: Charlamagne Tha God
  • The week of May 22nd: News Team Takeover
  • The week of June 5th: Michelle Wolf
  • The week of June 12th: Ronny Chieng
  • The week of June 20th: Lewis Black
  • The week of June 26th: Desus Nice

No idea what “News Team Takeover” means.

For some reason I imagined the verizon commercial with Seth Meyers and Cicely Strong was some kind of audition or anointing the new late night host.
It isn’t but she would not be a bad choice with the right writers.

I like Cecily Strong, a lot. She showed in some of her bits on Weekend Update that she had a talent for portraying very serious subjects in ways that are both funny and impactful. Here’s a perfect example:

To me, that is what a Daily Show host should be able to do. She’d rock it.

All that being said, has she been linked to the Daily Show at all? I thought maybe I just missed something, but a Google search shows no connection. Is this just a “fan casting” thing? If so, I’m on board.

The suits have been remarkably good at hiding their intentions. Even so, hiring someone who didn’t get a tryout before the audience would surprise everybody in the business.

Maybe - maybe - they’ll pick someone with desk experience. So I’d believe Michael Che getting the job before Strong. But I don’t believe either.

It seems like there’s not a lot of crossover between SNL and The Daily Show - has there ever been any? Both have been a good generator of upcoming talent. (I agree about Cecily Strong.)

Well, Michael Che who was just listed. I believe he briefly, very briefly, appeared on the Daily Show and then quit to go to SNL.

I should also point out that A. Whitney Brown went the other way, from SNL over to the Daily Show when it was new.
