given that in canon this is the last regeneration, why did they show us John Hurt if they’re not going with him?
It would be an interesting asspull if The Doctor regenerated into… Clara due to inserting herself into his timestream and becoming part of him. Or more specifically, something like DoctorClara, with the personality and memories of both. Would make up for mind-wiping DoctorDonna too.
(This is never gonna happen).
Alex Kingston
Paul McGann
Soirse Ronan
Idris Elba
Nobody – just follow a set of companions for a season.
Everyone keeps saying that the show has proven he can regenerate into a woman, because of the scene with Matt Smith where he felt his hair and gasped that he might be one. I took that as complete shock that it could happen and basically him being goofy, not as a declaration it was a real possibility. And that explains why he was horrified - if it actually were a possibility, he would be far more able to take it in stride. It’s the surprise because he didn’t think it possible.
I’m sure the show writers could write it in any way they want. I’m sure I’d go along for the ride. I just wouldn’t put much stock into a throwaway line to mock Matt Smith’s appearance.
Well, there was a reference to a Time Lord who switched genders in “The Doctor’s Wife.”
But the thing is…there’s no indication that it’s a common thing, that someone who’s born one gender regularly just swaps into the other (or back). For all we know, that particular Time Lord was a transgender and regenerating into the opposite gender is just a built-in alternative to Terran-style gender reassignment surgery!
So I’m leery of having a female Doctor after all these male actors–it might smack of a gimmick.
I was thinking about Paul McGann. He didn’t get a proper chance to be the Doctor. I’ve liked him in everything I’ve seen him in.
I will watch Idris Elba in anything. But I can’t see him being whimsical at all. The Doctor can be scary but I don’t want it to turn into Doctor Luther.
Maggie.
Smith.
Craig Charles.
What?
It’s Doctor Who, of course it’s a gimmick. The whole show is a gimmick.
Alun Armstrong. Fabulous actor, can play anything, and should shut down the “sexy doctor” vibe for a while.
When David Morrissey was a guest on Talking Dead this spring, Chris Hardwick made some comment about Morrissey being signed as the next Doctor. Does anyone know if there’s anything to this, or was Hardwick just messing with us?
It’s a pity they’ve used up Richard E. Grant as the GI, he’d have make a great Doctor.
I’d love seeing Stringer Bell, er, Idris Elba as the next Doctor…
“Word is on the street was that Dijax wasn’t anywhere on the planet when the Daleks put a cap in Strido’s ass.”
“Is you takin’ notes on a criminal fuckin’ conspiracy, Strax?”
“You know, River, you got to think about what we got in this game for. Is it to kill a few fuckin’ Daleks? Was it the rep we got back on Earth? Was it so our name could ring out on some fuckin’ streetcorner near some cheap-ass flats on the East end? There’s games beyond the fuckin’ game, man.”
“What, you think a Cyberman’s gonna get a job? You think…you think they gonna be like, ‘Fuck it, let me quit this game here and go to college’? No, they’re gonna buck a little, but they ain’t gonna walk. And in the end, you gonna get respect.”
And, of course, when Doctor Stringer regenerates:
“Well? Get on with it, Motherfu…”
He was in an episode called “The Next Doctor”. He played a character called Jackson Lake who thought he was The Doctor. I felt he did a good job and wouldn’t mind seeing him back. Per Romana, Time Lords are allowed to control the new form of their regeneration.
I have a proposal…
The Doctor has a split regeneration event because (wibbly wobbly stuff).
He regenerates as both Peter Dinklage and Emma Watson who add up to the previous Doctor due to conservation of mass. Also, because of conservation of hearts, Dinklage gets two hearts, but Emma gets none. The TARDIS matrix field keeps her alive though, and she becomes an insane “heartless” alter-doctor running off to become the next big-bad.
That occurred to me, too, but I agree it’s a long shot.
Only if the Master is played by Lord Xenu.
Thanks - I must have seen that before I started watching “Walking Dead.”:smack:
Well, better James Callis than James Carville.
Howsabout:
