I think we’ve moved beyond the clown outfits at this point. I’m confident that he’ll pick something cool (apparently he has quite a lot of input into his costume).
Russell T Davies, actually. Moffat didn’t take over until season 5.
I’m quite pleased that a lot of bairns are googling Peter Capaldi. When the schools start back up again after the summer I hope “come the fuck in or fuck the fuck off” becomes a thing
I think him and Alex Kingston are going to smoulder together.
(Oh, don’t give me that look. He’ll find a way to get her out of digital-heaven!)
I loved him in “In the Loop,” but I didn’t know he played the same character in a TV series before now! I wish he could cuss as the Doctor because he has such a great way using vulgar language.
Hey, I disagree about the long scarf being “silly.” I thought it was wonderful, and my mother knitted one for me and one for my son. (I especially enjoyed the episode where he used it to measure something.)
I don’t disagree about the ??? jumper.
Remember River’s first appearance and how she said the Doctor surprisingly looked so young. So, she knows an older looking Doctor.
I recall that McCoy wasn’t too fond of the ??? sweater, either. I know he had ditched it for the 1996 movie.
Here’s a letter Peter Capaldi wrote 40 years ago:

This makes me very excited to see this Peter Capaldi guy take the helm of the TARDIS.
In Ferguson’s memoir he credits Capaldi for convincing him to try standup comedy, which led to his career as an actor and then talk show host.
I’m not sure working-class Glaswegians can have a “memoir”.
Why not? I mean a younger person probably needs to wait a bit for a memoir, but you said working-class Glaswegians can’t write one?
I liked the long scarf too. Tom was one of my favorite Doctor’s.
It seemed later that the costume designers were trying to copy the 4th Doctors eccentric look. It lead to more and more extreme and sometimes silly costumes for the Doctors that came later.
Matt’s Doctor was a little eccentric but it worked really well. Matt has a unique and wonderful talent for portraying manic actions. I’ve never seen an actor move and twist that much before.
That doesn’t mean the next Doctor has to be even more eccentric. What worked for Matt may not work for the next guy. Thats what I meant earlier.
Also, the man makes several millions of dollars a year. He’s not working class any more.
I do believe Broken Briton was indulging in a bit of regional ribbing…I read it as having the implied ending “…because they can’t remember most of what happened due to the alcoholic haze” but I’m not British so I’m not absolutely sure what the current regional stereotypes might be.
Here’s Parade with five things you should know about the new Doctor - such as, he’s already won an Oscar!: http://www.parade.com/60836/viannguyen/5-things-to-know-about-the-new-doctor-who-peter-capaldi/
Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one that remembers Eccleston. I’m bummed out he decided not to join Smith and Tennant in the 50th anniversary special.
That being said, I’m excited for #12. I didn’t get into Who until after Smith had already started, so this will be the first time I get to see a new doctor/regeneration “live,” so to speak.
edited - no reason to be that snarky
I think its flattery, Eccleston didn’t look like a 40 something. But he was fantastic
