Who sleeps in on the weekends?

I used to be able to sleep for 10 hours straight, or more. Recently, I tend not to sleep more than 4 hours without waking up: either I need to pee, or I’m thirsty, or both. But once I’ve had a drink of water, &/or once I’ve peed, I can just go right back to sleep.

Today I got up at 4:30.

(In the afternoon.)

Life is sweet.

graveyard shifting can really mess up the body clock. I work it right now, and the problem is that while I am trying to sleep, everyone else is up about clanking, banging, making noise, goign about their business oblivious to my trying to sleep. often the only way I can get about 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep is to take some form of sleeping pill. and the worst part is, that on the nights I don’t work, I have to try to get on meveryone else’s schedules so I can have a social life. it really sucks, either that or I need to meet people who also work this shift. but I am hoping ot find a new job soon wher I cna have “office” hours.

Friedo, I always get up about that time of day.

Well, I can go back to sleep after coffee in the morning but after I’m up, what’s the point? There’s stuff to be done and then, well, there’s tending to the kids…

I get up at 5am during the week. Sleeping in till 8 during the weekend would be late for me. If I slept in to 10, I would feel like I have wasted the day.

Ah, a fellow nocturnal rattie!! Squeek squeek!

Yours are PRECISELY the kinds of hours I’d be keeping full time if I could just live by my own body clock.

:::sigh:::

Friday was fantastic. My car was in the shop, and it would have been too inconvienient to try and borrow my dad’s car, so I took the day off. I awoke at 7:00 to send in my email to my boss, and went back to sleep about 8:00. I awoke at 11:00, watched some TV, fell back to sleep until about 3:00. Then, I went to bed that night around 11:30. I feel so recharged!

Well, today I got up at 8:30 or so.

And that’s after Ivylad decides to take a shower at 4:30 in the morning. Because of his bad back, I have to keep an ear out to make sure he hasn’t slipped or fallen asleep in the shower.

I have never been able to adapt to getting up in the mornings. It’s always a drag-ass situation until at least noon. Thankfully, my current job allows me to have a schedudle identical to bouv’s (up at 9:00am, at work for 10:00am or so, stay up 'til 3:00am and sleep 'til 1:00pm on weekends). I still don’t function properly getting up at 9:00am, but it beats the hell out of getting up for 6:00. I’d give my left testicle for a night job, but my current job just pays too well and works too well for me in other ways for me to give it up. My body just naturally wants to be awake at night no matter how much sleep I get or how long I work at an awake-in-the-morning job.

Go back to bed! I’ll tend to the kids and keep the coffee warm.

I’m not sure how you plan on keeping the coffee warm…

I just switch it off and on again and it gives us another 2 hours. Kind of like the snooze button on the alarm clock.

rme

you’re no fun

I normally get up at 7:30am sharp, with or without the alarm clock. I get up at 10-11am’ish on Sundays, but I normally get home at 3-5am; so I actually losing sleep in the weekends…

My 3-yr-old wakes up at about 7AM, no matter what. I’ve tried putting her to bed later. She still wakes up at 7, but is cranky. She doesn’t know from weekends. All the same to her. So, one day during the week, Mr. norinew gets up with the little one, and lets me sleep (bless his dark little heart:))

I seem to be doomed just by genetics. My parents both go to bed at 9 pm and get up by 6 am every day, even on weekends. I, on the other hand, love to stay up late. Since I normally have to get up at 6:30 for work or classes, I go to bed at midnight on weeknights. But on weekends, I stay up until 4 or 5 am, with the justification that I can sleep in the next day. Except that I can’t. For absolutely no reason that I can find other than being my parents’ daughter, I end up getting up at 7 or 8 am, thus getting even less sleep than I do on weekday nights. Grrrrrr.

Oh, and this definitely cannot be blamed on old age. I’m 18 years old, for heaven’s sake.

Yay for us, Yersinia! It just feels right showering and getting ready to go out while everyone else is eating dinner. My best friend and I keep the same hours, so at least I have someone to hang out with. Good luck working towards those hours, lol. One day…

Whew!! I’m so glad I found this thread!! All these years I’ve felt like a worthless ass because I couldn’t get up in the mornings and CRAVED weekends because I didn’t have to set the alarm!! On weekends, I feel I’ve deserved the right to sleep in until at least 11:00. Now I don’t have to feel guilty about it!!

If I’m still in bed after 8:00 AM on a weekend I consider this to be “sleeping in.” I wake up at 5:15 and start work at 6:00 during the week. Even on weekends I’m usually out of bed before 7:00. I’m always thinking of the things I want to get done. I don’t sleep more than six hours most nights. If I lie in bed for too long I feel like I am wasting the day.

I’m one of those nocturnal folks as well. I loved the job I worked overnight - from midnight to 8 AM. I’d leave work at 8 AM and go run errands, whatever, go home and fix a nice dinner (I don’t like breakfast food), and then fall asleep around noon or so. I’d sleep till 8 or 9, get up and piddle around, talk to my roommate, etc., and then head out to work at 11 again. It was a good arrangement for me, and I was off on Fridays and Saturdays.

Now I work regular hours and have for three years. I sleep late on the weekends because I like to stay up until 2 or so on Friday and Saturday night. I typically sleep until 11 or 12 on Saturdays and Sundays, although I do get up and go to church on some Sundays. I figure I don’t have kids yet and will in a few years so I might as well get my sleep while I can. I’m also one of those people who does better on a TON of sleep, so the more sleep I can get the better.
