As I said, december, who at the moment has 36 threads in the Pit, plus (surprisingly) 4 that were started in the Pit and moved elsewhere. I have not checked the other threads to see if any were moved into the Pit from elsewhere, but I’d say that in this case that’s a good bet.
I hope this doesn’t turn into a contest, but here are some stats for the, uh, “Top Ten” presences in the Pit for 2002:

Please note that the board’s internal code dates threads by the latest post/reply, so not all of the threads displayed were necessarily started within the last year. In the one specific instance that I pointed out with regard to Fenris, that thread was started almost two years ago, and its resurrection caused it to be closed (which was what caught my eye). Also, as Colibri pointed out, there is no good way to find out which threads were started elsewhere and then moved to the Pit later on. Finally, since this data was gathered in the abbreviated fashion (i.e., “hmm…sure looks like this person started a lot of posts” instead of actually counting how many threads out of the 4000+ that each userid started), the bottom 3 or 4 names in this list may be incorrect, and may really belong to other Dopers.
Well, that was bothering me, and after a refreshing night of sleep I remembered that since I had all the data copied into Excel already, counting and sorting should be trivial, so I did – and am happy to confirm that the rankings posted above are indeed correct.
The earliest post, in case anyone is curious, is dated March 11, 2002, which means that a good chunk was lost during the Winter of Our Missed Content, which should, of course, be no surprise.
More sorting in Excel (actually, this could be done on the board, but I’ll spare the hamsters) shows that religion is the single most active topic, both in terms of replies and view count – which should be another non-surprise. I hesitate to point out the specific threads (let’s just say that some of our more devout members are involved), but if y’all are really curious and the mods approve, I can do so.
