Who takes The College Football Belt away from Baylor?

I was one of two to vote OSU.

Go Pokes!

I was the other one, but I’d love to see Baylor keep it going.

And the answer is Oklahoma State.
Bastards.

Congrats to OK State. Next year they play in Baylor’s new stadium but again at season’s end. I wish it was early.

Well, I guess it’s time for a new thread with the idea of how long OK St can keep The Belt. This was an impressive run for Baylor.

Looks like the Cowboys handed the belt right over to Oklahoma, there will have to be a thread next year polling how long whoever beats the Sooners in this year’s bowlfest will be able to defend the belt.

According to College Football Bowl Schedule | 2023 | FBSchedules.com

It would appear The Belt may stay in the Big 12 or else move to the SEC for at least a game.

Time will tell. It’s early to start a new thread, I suggest.

Last time it was in the SEC it was there from 1/8/2009 through 9/17/2011, won from Oklahoma, and lost to Clemson.

(See http://collegefootballbelt.com/Seasons.htm for details.)

Is it possible for the belt to belong to a lower-division team? Say Oklahoma loses to somebody like Iowa State, who in turn loses to an FCS school (formerly Division I-AA). Then the belt gets passed among various FCS teams, until one loses to some suck-ass Division III team.

Yes, it’s possible. You can check the history of The Belt at http://collegefootballbelt.com/Seasons.htm to see that such things might have happened, because at various places in the schedules of the Belt Holders they played lower division teams. The Belt might have been take out of the Div I arena by any of those teams and once in that area, it could have stayed indefinitely, perhaps a long time. It’s always possible because of schedule choices the “big guys” make. The potential is always there.

Look at Clemson’s record, for example.

Look at http://collegefootballbelt.com/Schools/School%20Names.htm to see how many non-Div-I schools have at least played in Belt Games. Any of them, if they had won it, might have kept it long enough to pass it on to others on their schedules. Theoretically it could still be there!
