I’ve been here since 1989 and can remember particulars about maybe 40 regular posters. Tops. I’m just easily confused by names. A few horrible ones stand out, a few I’ve met in real life, some of the admins and moderators, and a few good ones or ones with particular hobbyhorses. Even ones I think I know well I sometimes get confused on.

Honestly, I don’t know a thing about Scumpup. Nothing whatsoever.

I think I ‘know’ maybe ten posters by name, maybe (where ‘know’ means that seeing their name gives me some idea of the kinds of things they’e likely to say or the kinds of positions they’re likely to espouse.) There are a number more that I recognize as being posters I’ve seen post before, but the mental file folder I have associated with their name has nothing in it.

Poor, poor Scumpup is one of the latter.

Yeah I dont really understand this tendency for Dopers to claim en masse to not even know who long time regular posters are, when those posters violate board etiquette. I’m a pothea- a medical marijuana patient- and I have no trouble remembering even relatively obscure posters. Because I pay attention to not just what is being said but who is saying it. I thought that was normal social communication. Isnt it? When you hear something, whether it be stupid or smart, how do you not notice who the comment is coming from? So many here like to use the Ignore function. How does anyone even know who to put on ignore if no one knows who the fuck anyone else is here?

I’m with RickJay on this one.

I notice characters of significance. You I know for example. If you were gone I’d miss you. You add value to this community. But most of us I think function here as part of the TM. The place would not be anything without us but we don’t get the close ups.

Some I note for special expertise or interests. Some for the parts of their life stories they have shared. Some because they debate with skill. Some because they have caused me to question what I thought I knew. Some because they are entertaining. (And that includes some jerks.)

The op? I recognize it is a username on this board. Vague association of being a jerk and an idiot but nothing that stands out. No positive association. Of course that may just be that I have not frequented threads of relevance so much. But I simply would not notice if the op never posted again and it would impact me not at all.

Speaking only for myself, I’m quite sure I’ve seen some of Scumpup’s posts. Nothing has particularly stood to me to the point where upon seeing this thread I thought “Ooooo Scumpup.” I had to literally click on “View All Posts By Scumpup” to see what the issue(s) might be. Some posters definitely stick out, some in good ways (e.g., Chronos, Voyager, running coach and more) others in bad ways (e.g. Silver Lining, Shodan, octopus, etc.).

Oh, WTF, I’ll play. I recognize the OP as a useless shitstain but care so little that I can’t even be bothered to put it on “ignore”, though I probably will if it hangs around much longer. Not willing to pay money to have it fuck off, but would be good if it does and gets its jollies infesting some other board.

OP: consider that a new board might react more satisfactorily to your marvelous posts because the members there haven’t yet learned to dismiss you as a useless shitstain and might take you seriously for the first day or two.

I don’t really pay that much attention to poster names or status here. There are maybe a dozen that I know, either because they have a clever name, or they are huge assholes. Usually, I just read the responses and don’t even look at a name until a read something that makes me look who wrote it and say to myself, “oh yeah, that asshole.”
