Who wants to get fit??? Anyone?

Well, all the beer drinking has caught up with me and I’m overweight.

But, I’ve decided to get into shape. Inspired by this site I thought maybe some fellow Dopers would like to join me, perhaps we could take photos weekly to show our progression(or lack thereof).

If anybody is interested then you know what to do.

In case you don’t it’s reply to the thread stating interest.

When I can spend the evening in my comfortable recliner, ice-cold beer in one hand and pork-rinds in the other?

I think not.

My thoughts are with you though. Slugging it out, huffing and puffing, sweating like mad, with the bag of cookies so tantalizingly close.
I don’t envy you.

Nosiree.

Is getting fit a euphamism (sic) for getting drunk?

like getting:
wasted
blasted
toasted
tanked
shnockered
pissed
lit

hit?

Oh, my weight gain has nothing to do with cookies, it really is all beer. I don’t plan on cutting back so yes we can drink lots, I’m just planning on cancelling out the beer with some exercise/weights.

Drinking beer is “pumping aluminum.” Last night I got so fit, I forgot the way home. From next door.

Seriously, though, I have an appointment at 3:00 Monday afternoon with a trainer at Excel Fitness Center. He’s going to teach me “how to work out without hurting myself.” That’s how I described it to him. I don’t know how long a project that’s going to be.

Um, I do! I do! I don’t drink beer but somehow I’ve managed to gain about 15 lbs. this year. We joined the YMCA and I’ve been trying to work out 3 or more times a week. I don’t necessarily need to lose weight - I went up from a size 7 to a size 9, which hopefully isn’t that big a deal - just get rid of some flab.

Go! klintypooh! Go!!

I just joined a gym. It’ s expensive, but its the only one conveniently accessible to me, and I figure the more money I dump into it, the more I’ll feel guilty if I don’t go. I went all out too - gonna see a personal trainer every week for a few months, until I’m getting good results and I feel like Im motivated enough to go off on my own. That’s the plan, anyways. Im getting married next october, and I want to look GOOD. So far I really like this place, and the staff are really helpful (so far - only gone twice). First session with the personal trainer is on Tuesday. I need to do this. I need to lose a good 20lbs, and I WANT to do it. So…yeah…gonna get fit

My best friend joined a gym too, so we can call each other and motivate each other. That’s encouraging.

Ohhhh! I do! I do! My wake up call was when I was at the doc, and she pointed out my BMI was dangerously high. My problem is, I’m really tall, so I “carry my weight well”, or so everyone tells me. I’m still only a size 12 or 14, but I don’t like how I look!

I’ve lost almost 10 lbs since October. I joined my local Curves, and I eat a salad for lunch every day. I have 30 lbs to go to get back to a weight I am happy and healthy at.

Way to go all of us!

It’s a tough time of year to begin, but it’s better to think of it now rather than wait till January or February, when things have gotten really bad.

I lost an insane amount of weight during the year of 2003, and I’ve kept it off all this year. I’ve discovered that I can get away with not eating right here and there as long as I keep up with regular (four times a week) exercise. If I drop the exercise, the weight starts creeping back on. So I’ve dismissed the idea of avoiding cookies and breads and candy for the next few weeks, but I’m determined to keep on working out. I have faith that will work (and if it’s not a perfect system, I can at least be sure of having enough muscle mass to use up the extra fat after all the Christmas goodies are gone).

I’m already on the Weight Watchers path, and I lost a whole bunch of weight on my own prior to joining. So I’m good.

I’ll send supportive vibes and fat-free snacks from this corner… waves rice cakes

I’m in! I’ve also registered at the link you provided.

Last time I weighed (end of November 2004) I weighed in at 325. I am 5’9" and yes, I’m morbidly obese.

I’ve belonged to a gym for about three years, but I’m the king of excuses for not going. Either I’ve just eaten, or I haven’t eaten, or I’m too tired, or I have too much energy, yada yada yada…

I’ll be getting a new digital camera soon. Cover your eyes, I’ll be posting pictures (over at that link you gave, and here if everyone else does…)

Let’s do it!

i lost 15 pounds last year and slowly gained back 10, most of them since Thanksgiving. I’m just getting so bored at the gym. Plus no one ate my brownies at work for my birthday so i ate them all myself. But they were goooood…

Dec 27 when i come back from my (italian) familly, i’ll start again. South Beach I think. Worked last year, just got to keep away from cookies and brownies.

and as i just saw my username, yea, i gotta stay away from Monterrey Jack, Colby, Mild Cheddar, Medium Cheddar, Sharp Cheddar, Pepper Jack, etc…

Been thinking about it for a while now. Anduin, if you don’t mind my asking, how’s the Curves thing working out? And no, that pun was definitely not intentional, but I like it anyway. If you don’t actually require pictures, I’d be happy to join in with progress reports and such. I could use the motivation.

And I thought this was amusing. My daughter’s boyfriend might not be able to come to our Christmas party, on Jan. 1, because he works for a health club and they need all the employees to be there. It’s the busiest day of their year, since everybody makes New Year’s resolutions and then wants to start them immediately.

I’m in! Woo hoo!

My new job gives discount memberships to local gyms, so I’m going to join one once my second paycheck comes in. Does anyone know anything about Healthworks? I was a member at Curves for a while, but there isn’t one near my new apartment. I use public transportation, so I need a place that I can get to easily, and there is a Healthworks right near my work, and another one on the T on my way home.

My food weaknesses are mostly fried, cheesy, salty things. I’m not a huge candy / sweet junkie, and can usually avoid those kinds of things. Also, I have a hard time with portion control.
