Who was the model in the famous Volkswagen ad?

A colleague just mentioned a model/actress who shot to fame in a very famous Volkswagen TV ad that was aired in the UK (and maybe the US?) back in the 1980s.

This advert featured the woman splitting with her cheating husband, and throwing all his possessions away in anger. At the very end, she is on a bridge, about to drop his VW keys in the river.

Then at the last second, you see her hand close over the keys, and the next shot is her in the car, smiling - she’s decided she couldn’t bear to get rid of the car, etc.

Apparently the model in this TV shot to fame, but later suffered a tragic breakdown. Anyone remember who she is?

yep, its paula hamilton.
who afterwards decided to go into cocaine addiction fulltime, which the UK tabloids delighted in telling us about a few years ago. not sure what shes upto now, but it probably involves bus stations, chump change and fellatio.
