Who was the most beautiful FEMALE celebrity of the 1950s-1960s?

Yes, but a bitch to work with.

The only acceptable answer to the poll is Grace Kelly. That is all.

Regards,
Shodan

I remember asking my mother and grandmother this question when I was a little girl in the early '60s. Their collective answer, without hesitation, was Elizabeth Taylor. So I’m going with Liz.

I’ve always had a thing for 60s Linda Ronstadt, but alas she didn’t make the list.

So I went with the stunning Claudia Cardinale. I mean Holy Shish Kabob.

I’m curious. How long did it take to create this thread?

The longest time was spent on the preliminary phase, getting a list of candidates.

That part went from

until roughly
#66 03-20-2016, 07:44 AM

Putting the poll itself together after that period took until right before

Poll now up at

So roughly 16 hours of getting names and then 20 minutes or so to put the poll together.

After 108 Voters have made their picks, the top of the list looks like this:

Audrey Hepburn 24 22.22%
Grace Kelly 14 12.96%
Sophia Loren 10 9.26%

Catherine Deneuve 7 6.48%
Natalie Wood 6 5.56%
Claudia Cardinale 5 4.63%
Marilyn Monroe 5 4.63%
Elizabeth Taylor 5 4.63%
Diana Rigg 4 3.70%

Brigitte Bardot 3 2.78%
Katherine Ross 3 2.78%

I’d like some feedback on how we should proceed so as to be able to be fair to those ladies who have fallen a bit short due to the One Vote Per Customer nature of this poll.

Counting this group as winners so far – to be excluded from a Second Pass – I’m thinking a separate poll with maybe three votes per Voter (honor system) for all those women with 2 votes or fewer from this poll, along with the “overflow group” who weren’t even on the poll this time, should give us a better representation from this time period.

What would you like to see as improvement(s) on these ideas?

I’ll wait a few days before proceeding to a second phase of this project.

Here are the “overflow” names so far:
**
Jaqueline Bisset
Barbara Feldon
Susan Hayward
Virna Lisi
Yvette Mimieux
Jackie Onassis
Jennifer O’Neill
Linda Ronstadt
**

Add other names if you really like them!

My DH wants to know why Doris Day isn’t on the list. Maybe she should go on the overflow?

Me, I voted for Sophia Loren but I can see in my mind Elizabeth Taylor in her early days and might have changed my mind if I could.

I voted for Claudia as well, having never heard of her until this thread, and based just on a photo linked to upthread. (Yay fighting ignorance!)

Also…I take it you’re a man? If so, I’ve been mistaken all this time – I always associate you with Happy Rockefeller.

I’ll add Doris to Overflow. I also have problems deciding on Liz vs. Sophia. Longevity and maintained good looks would make me take Sophia.

But wasn’t Lassie really a Laddie? A canine ladyboy.

That’s what I’ve heard. No cite beyond a fuzzy memory. Just always struck me as a bit weird. I don’t know about Cheetah, though!

More like Happy Loman.

It is quite likely that Grace Kelly is the most beautiful woman who ever lived. If it’s discovered that she faked her death because she was actually Melian, slumming in the mortal lands for a season, I would not be surprised.

She’s even better in motion.

The explanation I always heard was male dogs are easier to train. I guess the females really are bitches.

I married into an Italian family. So I voted for Sophia Loren because a) I’ve already shown an affinity for that kind of appearance, and b) I’m very, very afraid of what my female in-laws would do to me if I didn’t. :o

New poll is now up:

Catherine Deneuve no longer made the cut? In the new poll. :frowning:

Half of those celebs I don’t even know, and am not going to trawl for photos, so I’ll stick with who I do know. Audrey Hepburn is undoubtedly cute as a button, and glamorously beautiful at the same time, and ticks all my boxes, but for me it’s a toss up between her and Ann Margret, who seems effortlessly sexy, and remains beautiful today (or until recently, judging from the last ten years of photos online).

I seem to be the only one who has voted for Ann Margret, so that’s interesting.

Wow, thanks. Tunisia’s gift to the world. That complication video is now near the top of my Favorites list.
