Who was this seemingly unidentified character in the movie "Amelie"?

In the movie Amelie the title character steals her father’s garden gnome and arranges it to be sent to iconic locations around the world like NYC. Photos of the gnome at these locations are mailed to the father without explanation.

Somewhat late in the movie there is a very brief scene between Amelie and the woman who is managing all the gnome travel. The woman tells Amelie that her colleagues have begun calling her Snow White – the gnome, of course, resembles a dwarf from the fairy tale.

Who is this woman, and what is her job exactly? Is she a flight attendant, a post mistress, a photo retoucher? The scene suggests that we have seen this woman earlier in the movie, but I can not place her.

Thanks all, in advance.

I remember her as being a flight attendant, but it’s been long enough since I’ve seen the movie that I can’t recall how I know that.

She’s definitely a flight attendant and I want to say that she does show up earlier in the movie at some point, but it’s also been a while for me so I can’t say for sure at the moment.

Flight attendant, methinks. I don’t remember if we actually see her earlier in the film, but there is some reference to her as the contact for the travel.

The flight attendant’s name is Philomène, she is Amelie’s neighbour, and Amelie looks after her cat when Philomène is away.

There you go - somebody who has seen the film in the last 10 years.

Popping in to say that I quite enjoyed this film when I saw it years ago. I just keep forgetting to buy it or to check out other Audrey Tautou films. One of its most appealing aspects, at least to me, is the absence of the most obnoxious Hollywood trappings.

I think my favorite scene is the quick shot of Amelie and her boyfriend (of short duration, I’d imagine) having sex. Nothing graphic shown, everything implied, and yet it was obvious what was going on. The absolute best part was the look on her face, trying hard not to laugh, even biting her lip in the effort, at how absurdly serious the boyfriend appeared to be. Says so much on the level of importance that males and females attach to the act of sex, and these levels are not the same.

Overall, a wonderful film, and I’m tempted to start a thread asking for foreign film recommendations. Alas, I am on the cusp of obtaining my degree, and then striking off in an entirely new (for me) career direction, and the job search will be brutal and time-consuming. Thus, spare time is a luxury I can ill afford for at least the next few weeks.

It’s three years old, but perhaps this thread will be a decent start to your quest. I’m still working my way through that list, ever so slowly. (I’ve since gone on a documentary kick as there’s also some good Doper recs on those as well.)
