I wonder if no one will want to be affiliated with Drumpf like it was in '72 when McGovern’s running mate dropped out when it was discovered he was taking meds for depression and had electric shock treatment.
McGovern asked lots of people… “Six different prominent Democrats declined to run as his vice-president: Ted Kennedy, Edmund Muskie, Hubert Humphrey, Abraham Ribicoff, Larry O’Brien and Reubin Askew. McGovern ultimately chose former Ambassador to France and former Director of the Peace Corps Sargent Shriver, a brother-in-law of John F. Kennedy and Ted Kennedy.”
Larry O’Brien? Commish of The NBA? Yup. Reubin Askew, whose middle initials were… OD?
I wonder of if the same will happen to Drumpf? Everyone will smell the coming disaster and run like hell. Drumpf ends up with Gen. Curtis LeMay or maybe Brian Griffin, from The Family Guy or the guy who plays the Sasquatch in the…Messing with Sasquatch commercials.
RODA? Oooooh!!! Wouldn’t it be awesome if Rhoda were Trump’s running mate? And Mary Richards could be Secretary of State! Lou Grant could head the FCC!
A very liberal friend of mine who used to be an Army combat pilot was visiting the other day, and brought up Mattis as his fantasy VP pick for Clinton. When I told him that Mattis was being mentioned as Trump’s veep I could see the wheels turning at Mach 3 behind his eyes. He didn’t say it, but I would bet that if Trump picked Mattis, my friend would defect and vote for Trump.
I actually think Arpaio would be the head of Trump’s new secret police. So not veep. But regardless of his title I think it’s a near certainty Arpaio would have a significant power in a Trump administration, kinda like Rove and Cheney did in GWB’s. But to much more baleful effect on the country.
No self-respecting politician with future ambitions (Rubio, Kasich, Walker) would accept the offer. I can see possibly Christie, because how much further can he dig? I don’t think Trump has any respect for Carson. I don’t really see it being any of the former candidates or someone closely linked with the GOP establishment.
My guess - some former GOP administration official with a patina of government and foreign relations experience. I can’t imagine who it will be, but someone most people have never heard of.
John Bolton, maybe? Hits all the talking points that the Trump crew seems to love. Already announced his support, I think (or at least neutrality).
Has a plausible amount of foreign policy experience, although a massive Iraq war hawk teamed up with the guy that constantly trashes the Iraq war is a bit dissonant.
And a quick Google search shows Bolton strongly apposed to the proposed Muslim ban, so who knows.
