Allen West, Jim Jordan would be good choices.
Barely noticeable in this election. It certainly can’t be used as a tactic if Hillary gets the nod from the other side.
Trump’s VP choice practically defines itself, really, because the requirements are so clear.
First, the candidate must be a groveling, obsequious sycophant who feeds Trump’s enormous ego, and regards Trump as the indisputable Master of the Universe.
Second, the candidate must be unquestionably and absolutely loyal, incapable of a disloyal thought.
Third, the candidate must be capable of viciously attacking anyone who dares criticize Trump, and in general share Trump’s hostility to everyone except his own band of fevered loyalists, and be able to soothe Trump’s thin-skinned feelings.
Fourth, it’s highly desirable that the candidate be a minority, preferably a Latino and readily identifiable as such.
And voila, the perfect VP pick!
Looks remarkably like Kasich or Christie. Generally incapable plus extra ridiculous when showing aggression. Go on, nip my ankle. I dare ya’! Punt!! Yowwwwlll !. Yip yip yip!
Christie is a bully just like Trump is. I think they would clash too much.
Never underestimate the ferocity of those little Mexican ankle-biters! Besides, switch quickly between the pics of my VP proposal and Trump himself and behold the likeness of kindred spirits!
Charlie Sheen?
Often, the nominee looks to offset something about their own selves with their Vice President. It was said in 2008 that Biden was an attempt to offset the President’s lack of Congressional experience and foreign policy experience. Moreover, Palin was a move to rally the base and offset McCain’s more moderate nature.
Do you think Trump will seek to offset? Will he think in another way?
If Trump goes for a woman to offset the previous thoughts about him and women, I think it will backfire majorly. I wish it could work out and I really wish he could do it and frame it in the perfect way but I simply don’t see it as possible.
Trump has said he will seek a politician. Will that person be an equal outsider or someone with more experience/insider status? Furthermore, it seems hard to imagine him bringing someone back that he previously decimated to be his VP. A lot of the rising stars were in this race and he’s killed most of them.
Who does that leave? Ryan the House leader? Seems very unlikely.
Kasish whose equal moderate status wouldn’t do anything for Trump’s non-conservative status? Seems unlikely too, but what do I know?
Megyn Kelly
Book it. Done.
Which of the candidates that Trump destroyed would you describe as “rising stars”?
I mean Jeb was talked about a lot - he’s old for a rising star but he was seen as next in line, if you will.
Cruz because if there’s a risk of a brokered convention putting Kasich as Prez, Cruz and Trump could team up. They do balance each other regionally, agewise, and political experience (if u count Cruz’s Texas work)
Christie & Carson are both acting (at least as of about 3 weeks ago) as if they’ve already been hand-picked for the job.
In a surprise move that promises to shake up the 2016 election, Donald Trump announced today that his running mate will be Obloximatl, the Oozing Unlife. The announcement was broadcast on every major news station across the world, as well as appearing on every blank sheet of paper on the continent of North America, written in a language that scholars have tentatively identified as proto-Aramaic.
Trump’s speech was directly beamed into the amygdala of all primates around the world, as well as octopi, ravens, and at least 4 species of spiders. Trump praised his running mate’s record on immigration. “He Who Dreams Inverted has the best, most luxurious psudopods you’ve ever seen. I’ll tell you, let me tell you, you’ve never seen psudopods like this. And he…well, they…promised me that we won’t even need to make Mexico pay for the wall along the Rio Grande. It’ll happen for free. It’s already begun to congeal.”
Obloximatl transmitted a statement from their new campaign headquarters, a 29-faceted opal found at the peak of Mt. Haleakala. “ALL BECOMES DUST ALL BECOMES DUST ALL BECOMES DUST”
This selection is widely predicted to help Trump in the battleground state of Florida, where turn-out could be limited by crippling migraines, locust-ridden diarrhea, and a highly virulent neurodegenerative disease known as The Grey.
It’ll be Ivanka Trump. She’s Constitutionally qualified, to my surprise (turning 35 this fall), and seems to be the only person Trump actually likes and trusts. Normally, a candidate wouldn’t choose his own daughter, but this is not a normal campaign.
Aren’t they both New York residents? I think that disqualifies her. She’d have to move, like when Cheney moved to Wyoming so he could be on W’s ticket.
No. Electors from NY would be forbidden from casting their votes for both Trump and Trump (unless they perform the very easy workaround you pointed out in your post), but there is no other restriction.
ETA: relevant text of 12th Amendment:
No one, obviously.
I always thought Palin was selected because the GOP powers-that-be thought that disappointed Hillary supporters would vote for any ticket that had a vagina on it.
As to the question under consideration – I understand Trump is in a different position than candidates typically are and would therefore have more (or maybe even total) leeway in selecting a running mate. But doesn’t the presidential candidate often have only a small role in selecting the VP candidate?
Personally, I think that Palin was chosen because McCain’s brain was never able to get past the “I want to have sex with her” stage.
And ultimately, the candidate chooses their own running mate. The advisors and party insiders and so on only have as much say in the decision as the candidate asks them for. A sensible candidate listens closely to their advice. Trump, though…
