I’m gonna go with Empire Maker. He’s got a couple things working against him: he’s been the favorite, and favorites almost never win the K.D.; and he also bruised his leg earlier in the week. But apparently he’s been looking good in the workouts despite the leg, and he’s my pick.
Empire Maker was acting up in training earlier this week and almost threw his rider. His trainer is talking very, very big about him and dismisses the training hijinks as exuberance. We shall see.
I just wish I didn’t have to be at work during the race. Having a julep and watching the Derby has been one of my favorite activities for years.
I can only console myself by realizing that if i actually had gone down the block to my local OTB and placed money on Funny Cide, he wouldn’t have won.:dubious:
Oh, argh, came in third. Good call, Lola!
Well, hope springs eternal…will this cutie be at the Derby in 2005?? (this is my brother’s new baby, sired by Flying Continental. I’m such a proud auntie. Looks like he has a big head, heh.)
