With all this stuff going on with Howard Stern and the Patriot Act and censorship, and the “Christianizing” of America, I have to make sure to get myself to the polls this year to try and get Bush out of office.
The only problem is that I loathe Democrats as well. I agree the most with the Libertarian party but I realize there’s no way they will get elected. The problem is that I want to get Bush out of office without voting for Kerry.
I’m thinking that more people would be on the Republican/Libertarian line than on the Democrat/Libertarian line and therefore a Libertarian vote would help the Democrats, but I want some conformation before I decide for sure. If a Libertarian vote is going to help Bush then I’ll have to swallow my pride and vote Democrat.
Well, I’d vote Libertarian if we weren’t so embroiled in a two party system. The next best thing is Republican. So me being a small sample, I’d say by voting Libertarian, you’d be hurting Bush.
But I gotta ask – why the hell would a Libertarian ever even consider voting Democrat? Poser!
I am facing the exact same quandry. I am a Libertarian that hates Bush so much that I’ll be voting for Kerry. I am not at all happy about this.
To answer your question, it depends on your state. If it’s going to be a close battle in your state, you need to vote for Kerry. If one or the other is going to run away with it, your Libby vote won’t hurt or help either one.
If Bush is the key factor, then it’s kind of like you have two votes. Just by not voting for him, you withold one vote. By voting for Kerry, you do a double whammy.
But I agree with the theory that it depends on your state. AZ went for Bush last time, and probably will again. 2000 results were:
Bush: 781,652
Gore: 685,341.
I’m in a similar position as you are, but in CA the situation is reversed.
Another thing to keep in mind in terms of voting Dem (even if you dislike them) is that Congress will almost certainly still be controlled by the Pubs-- probably even more so after the election. Kerry will have a tough time getting any kind of liberal agenda thru Congress.
You’re in a tough situation. When in doubt, vote your conscience. You are probably overestimating how bad Bush is. The president really can’t do all that miuch unless Congress lets him.
