Everybody(including me) has been complaining for a while about our choices of who we can vote for for president. So who would you really like to see run, among people who could feasibly win. I always used to kind of like Jack Kemp, cause he seemed to be a good combination of a democratic type compassion, and a Republican practicality (I’ve been so disolutioned lately I havn’t been paying attention so I’m sure somebody will have a great story about what is wrong with him). Dick Cheney also struck me as one of the most truly honest people who got to a high level in the Government.
I’d like to see Alan Keyes run. Oh wait, he did, he just never got any coverage.
“Why doesn’t the media cover Alan Keyes?”
“Well nobody’s going to vote for him; who’s heard of Alan Keyes?”
“Hmmm, you’re right. And why hasn’t anyone ever heard of Alan Keyes? BECAUSE THE MEDIA DOESN’T COVER HIM!! What, did you meet the other candidates at a garden party?”
Media: “Holy crap, a religious black man! Turn that camera off! We’ll just say the debate was Bush, Gore and McCain!”
Sorry about that rant…
I also think I’d like to see Naked Dancing Llama run for president. Oh, wait, he is! Come support him at http://www.frolic.org.
I’ll be voting for Ralph Nader in November. We need to foster the growth of a third party in America. Americans have lived for too long under a single party system masquerading as a two party system.
I’d love to see Mel Gibson run, that man has a butt that just won’t quit. (sorry I just couldnt resist;)
Sorry Sue. Despite being “The Patriot”, Mel is Australian. You have to be a natural born citizen to be president. The wording is a little tricky, but I’m practically positive there are no exceptions for a great butt.
I’d still like to see Mario Cuomo run, but that’s looking less and less likely. Adlai Stevenson’s current state of deadness precludes him from making another run. How about Bill Nye, the Science Guy? At least he might be able to explain why global warming is a bad thing to congress.
I was just about to say…Daniella Pestova!
Actually that is an interesting point about Mel Gibson. He WAS born American, and moved to Australia when he was young.
I’d assume he got Australian Citizenship when he turned of age, but I’m not sure how the laws work in that case.
Hear, hear.
Of course, ultimately, only the introduction of a truly representative system (like in much of Europe) will help, but this might be a good first step.
What kind of “truly representative system” are you talking about? One where the minority parties get huge influence because they make or break the coalition? If so, no thanks, I’ll pass.
Who would I like to see run? An honest person. I actually care more about that than almost any specific issue. Almost; there are a few that I’d be definitely worried about, but I’d have to see.
Unfortunately, it’ll never happen, so I’ll never have to worry about it…
I say Colin Powell. Anybody who can win a war without a single shot by a well-timed helicopter flight (which he did in Haiti) should be able to handle any problem he may face.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Dead Chipmunk!
Waht about Ralph Nader? He doesn’t shy away from telling it like it is. He’s the only real reformer this year, with a forty-year track record of working for viters, consumers, taxpayers, workers, and the environment to prove it. This Year we’ve got an honest guy.
change that to “What” and “voters”
bill cosby.
I think Christopher Walken. He’ll scare the crap out of anybody who wants to mess with the Prez. And he can just do the Continental on SNL to drum up voters…assuming anybody watches that anymore that is.
I’d like to see someone with a shot at winning and who is pro-life . . . wait, those two thoughts haven’t ever gone together in my lifetime, so far as I know.
Still, though . . . one can hope and dream and all that fun stuff.
Ralph Nader? I think you guys need to take a closer look at the Green party’s platform. Its way to close to Socialism for my taste, and much of it would destroy the US economy in a short time.
How would I like to see as president? A non-career politician who’s not also insanely rich (which in itself makes him a political player).
Because, let’s face it, people don’t matter. It’s about time someone made corporate interests the first priority, and stopped listening to the panty-waste constituents. I know that my opinion doesn’t matter, and I’m always happy to hand as much control of my own life to big business and the government as they want…
I don’t think you understand. Just because the upper middle class is having a field day on e-trade, doesn’t suddenly mean there aren’t problems in America. If building a progressive citizens movement and making civic values sovereign over corporate ones will destroy the US economy, then perhaps we should examine what about our economy makes this so.
Don’t even get me started about the abortion bit.
I have written in Dick Gregory many times.
If only he would win…
