Who would you pick to be President?

Well, he’s kinda famous.

He was the U.S. representative for Michigan’s 3rd congressional district from 2011 to 2021. Wants to abolish the U.S. Department of Education, and was for bringing all he troops back from Syria. He was a Republican, then Independent, then Libertarian. Founded The Liberty Caucus, anti-abortion, pro-Pot, and was a right wing thorn in the Republican Party’s backside for most of his term.
Oh, yeah-He ran for Speaker of the House…and got zero votes.

Nothing wrong with that, from my stand point. Then again, I am not your typical Doper…

I realise that I am days behind in this thread, so feel free to skip over this.

I live in a different country and don’t watch TV, so have never watched Jon Stewart before.

That was a masterful take-down. Truely impressive.

Thank you for sharing it

If that’s what you’re looking for, why not Neil deGrasse Tyson then? All the same qualities, plus he’s alive.

And (Lord) Chuck Nice as VP!

Because after reducing the national debt, I’d get a kick out of Sagan saying, “we’re now only billions and billions of dollars in debt.”

In case my vote for Wavy Gravy falls into this category, he is a social activist, former Yippie, founder of the Hog Farm, helped organize “breakfast in bed for 400,000” at Woodstock, founder of Camp Winnarainbow, and more. In 1980, he helped organize the campaign for “Nobody for President.” After all, Nobody would be a shoo-in, since “Nobody’s Perfect”, “Nobody Keeps All Promises”, “Nobody Should Have That Much Power”, and “Who’s in Washington right now working to make the world a safer place? Nobody!” Furthermore, “Nobody makes apple pie better than Mom. And Nobody will love you when you’re down and out.”

Ben Shapiro, smartest man in America.

I won’t vote for myself – I do NOT want that job.

Actually, I don’t think I’d vote for anyone who does want the job, which rules out most politicians.

So I’m thinking I’d name a Navy officer I served with (but whose name I won’t post here because I’m not sure he’d appreciate it).

Ditto.

and I don’t think being a good person is really that helpful a qualification. You need to be able to twist arms and get stuff done.

Based on a quote upthread,

you are eminently qualified.

Not so fast. What is Kurt Vonnegut is right?

“Only nut cases want to be president. This was true even in high school. Only clearly disturbed people ran for class president.”

You can’t automatically assume - though it is true in many cases - that wanting to be president means wanting to rule. In my case, it would be wanting to be in a position where I could do the most good. I believe Obama was such a president and, from what I’ve read about Jimmy Carter, I believe he was such a president, also.

I’d never pick someone who doesn’t want the job any more than a company would hire a person who doesn’t want the job position that they need filled. A person with that mindset simply can’t be a leader because he doesn’t give a damn.

That dude is brilliant. He was my first choice in Michigan’s democratic primary in 2018. Whitmer is great, but El Sayed is just brilliant. I hope he runs for something again.

Christopher Lloyd

Uhhhhhh:

One? The other? Both (co-presidency)?

Think on it a while. There is a perfect response to my post.

Here’s a huge hint: Back to the Future (5/10) Movie CLIP - I'm From the Future (1985) HD - YouTube

I get to pick someone? Anyone? I think I’ll take a gamble on Juliette Kayyem
