Only guideline is it cannot be Biden OR Trump. You can tell us your vote for the primary, election or both. You can make it a write-in vote. You can make it a protest vote like Murder Fox. Just no Biden or Trump.
Republican primary: Lisa Murkowski - AK Senator
The only rational Republican left after Susan Collins decided to support Betsy De Vos and Brett Kavanaugh.
General: Assuming no rational Republicans (or at least close enough to social libertarian so that I can stomach them) then Lisa Murkowski as a write-in. The only exception to this would be IF Kamala Harris were the Democratic nominee I may consider voting for her depending on how Hard-Right the Republican nominee is.
I mean, I guess whoever the Dem candidate will be because I’m not interested in voting for Republicans at any level of government.
Sure I’m not the only one here who thinks the same.
If I had to write in a Republican, gun to temple, I guess Mike Pence because, being despised as he is among the MAGA crowd, he does not have a shot in hell of winning anything. And if he does win, no way in hell does he build a coalition.
I’m Canadian so when I take US political compass tests I end up very far left (while being just left of center in Canada). So for me, I would vote for any Democrat. If I could pick the president on my own, then probably Bernie Sanders.
Not to junior mod my own thread but the intention is for you to actually pick somebody. I get that on the SD 98% of responses would be “The Dem”, “Not a Republican” etc. and the thread would be horribly uninteresting sprinkled with Trump/Pub bashing. But my idea was for you to come up with an actual name and if in the general it is The Democrat that’s fine then give us a name for your party’s primary/caucus OR even who you will vote for in the other party’s primary/caucus if you state allows it.
Also just saying The Dem violates the thread guideline if Biden is the Democratic nominee, so sure I guess you could say “Whatever Dem is the nominee except if it is Biden I would vote for XXXXX” to stay within the rule of the thread.
I too will vote for any Democrat in the 2024 Presidential election. Somehow, the Supreme Court has to be swung back to a proper balance. So Dems need to be in power at least until this happens.
Now as a mod, your guideline is untenable. It means nothing and will not be enforced. Sorry, but if you want I will close the thread for you.
Please do. Not interested in (yet another) entire thread of Any Dem or Never a Republican.
At least I thought it might have been interesting. Thank you @Bear_Nenno for playing.
I’ll go with Secretary Pete. (formally Mayor Pete)
Of course, any Democrat will do, but I don’t think that fits the intention of this thread, nor do I think it’s untenable for each of us to pick a candidate, even if “any democrat” is the ultimate (and only correct) answer.
It would be bloody, and the cleanup would be terrible, but I’m sure the nation would eventually heal from the collective trauma of 70 million Republican heads simultaneously exploding when Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez becomes president.
As for closing it, would a less drastic move be to edit the OP with something like, “Other than Biden or Trump, who do you think would be the best president of the United States?” I think you’d get the kind of answers you were hoping for with a slightly different question, and perhaps a mod would be willing to edit that question in for you. It has the potential for an interesting thread.
After the entire Republican party has explicitly or implicitly endorsed the attempted coup on January 6, I can never vote Republican again. (I was an independently minded, registered Republican for over thirty years.)
I will happily vote for whoever wins the Democratic nomination. I would prefer voting for either Kamala Harris or Pete Buttigieg in the primary, and could consider others as well.
