That’s more money than I expected but I didn’t realize their crew was that large. It’s still not a whole lot of money per-episode compared to a scripted drama, of course. 3M viewers is fairly decent for a brand new cable reality show without a Name attached to it, imo.
How it is for a brand new network show?
I just listened to a podcast about reality shows because it included an interview with Geno.
In it he said that each episode takes three days to make. The parts of the investigation and testing/case stating and dinner part are all much more separated in time than they look. So it would be more like $2.25 million per episode (don’t know if that includes the pre- and post-production costs).
He also said it is indeed weird to be the corpse in the morgue with them talking over you and touching you.
And that when they weren’t on camera they were pretty much sequestered and couldn’t interact with each other. And they were sequestered in rooms without TV or Internet so it really was a long time in the house and when they started to go stir crazy the producers would give them some “yard time”.
Also, Don is a vegetarian so it really wouldn’t make sense that he’d be excited to go into the kitchen to cook his steak.
Oh, I forgot this was ABC. Averaging 3 million viewers is a pretty ok number, all things considered. It’s not brilliant but it’s ok.
I was looking around for comparisons and it looks like as of the last week in June, their viewership was improving slightly - that’s good.
Also, here’s a comparison with the Discovery Channel reality show, Naked & Afraid, which beat Whodunnit (also 60 Minutes, America’s Got Talent and Celebrity Wife Swap, among other established shows.) Naked & Afraid only pulled in 3.6 million viewers and everyone’s talking about it as a record setter for Discovery Channel. So Whodunnit isn’t doing too badly, in comparison.
Do you have a link to that podcast?
A lot of preamble and postamble that I didn’t care about. The Geno interview part starts at minute somewhere after 20 minutes.
A monkey with a silenced handgun.
Brilliant.
Too bad Ronnie wasn’t killed by an orangutan with a straight razor.
Oh god, I wanted to hit Ronnie over the head with something when he came up with THAT theory :headdesk: I like him a lot better than Kam.
I think Ronnie was just
shooting in the dark.

I’m looking forward to seeing what movie magic explanation they have for a hot tub that can blow Ronnie ten feet in the water.
More convinced than ever that Melina is the KILLER.
Giles continues to be the STAR of the Show.
For the first time during the morgue scene, I saw the victim breathing!
I still think it’s Melina, too. I have no idea how things will go next week. It kind of made it look like Melina is all on her own. If she comes out unscathed after next week. It would seem she could only do that if she was the killer.
Only way I could see it is if the producers allow all the contestants to go to all three spots, so she’s not iced out from the three locations.
Or she magically develops a brain and solves the riddle. Which seems less likely.
Yeah. It seems at some point they would have to let the contestants go to all the spots or else there would be no way for anyone to have the chance to get it completely right. Even if it came down to Kam, Cris and Lindsey as the last 3 and they each went someplace different, why would they share when they know it is so close to the end? The alliance isn’t going to last past this next episode.
Did anybody else catch that “What is your phone doing in Geno’s dead pants?” I laughed so hard I missed everything else that happened in that scene.
I can’t believe “monkey with a gun” was seriously the way Ronnie went with that. I suppose that the chandelier lever was completely accessible to those at the crime scene and nobody happened to find it?
It’s taken this long, but somebody finally accused Melina. From the previews, it looks like her personality changes completely next week. I’m definitely looking forward to that.
I did like that malapropism myself.
I think Kam just didn’t look behind the right curtain. They only have so much time at a given crime scene, so they have to skip something. Lindsey missed the bobby pin in Geno’s room too. (Of course, Ronnie was farting around with the crest on the floor for most of his investigation).
And I think the accusations are done way too much from a “I don’t like this person” perspective and not a “I think this person is the killer”. Kam has said on Reddit that guessing who the killer is does not show up int he quiz they take to see who is scared.
Why did “The Killer” have Geno steal Giles’ phone? It didn’t end up being either a red-herring or an actual clue. “Steal Giles’ phone and I won’t kill you” except (s)he did kill him even though he stole the phone.
Then out by the pool didn’t Giles mention that the killer wanted him sunbathing? And since when has he had on a tracking anklet? So the Killer is pulling Giles’ strings…what are they leading us to? Maybe if everyone guesses who the killer is, then Giles will kill him/her out of vengeance and the remaining people will have to solve that murder for the win?
Or maybe the killer will kill GILES.
The “logic” behind the cell phone is, if Geno is willing to steal things to spare himself, he’s “unworthy” of living, and therefore deserved to die. Please note the scare quotes.
Personally, I think they could have done a lot more with the cell phone, but as it was the phone was just another detail to trip people up in state your case.
The tracking anklet has been there since episode one - Giles just doesn’t show it off much because he’s usually in full formal attire.
I doubt Giles himself will actually kill someone. The golden handcuffs are so the winner can cuff the killer to hand over to the police. Giles has to stick around in case of season two (which I am really hoping for).
I was startled that it wasn’t followed by a savage jump cut caused by the corpse, uh… ‘corpsing’.
I’m really hoping that next week involves liquid nitrogen in a soluble container causing a rocket-propelled Ronnie.
Apparently the Killer has been leaving riddles on the ABC website

Dearest Mortals,
I am thrilled to see how loquaciously you’ve been discussing my diabolical game. I can only smile with glee upon the realization that I have captured your imaginations with such a firm grip. Some of you are grasping at straws, while others continue to impress me. Remember, that there are clues in each and every episode pointing to my identity. Are you perceptive enough to pick up on them? If I were you, I would return to the champagne party clue in the first episode - for during that delightful little festivity, dear mortals, you will find the key to my identity.
Take heart, mortals, for some of you are red hot and on the right track. Others of you leave much to be desired. Never forget, that the game is murder, and in the end, there can only be one who survives. Who will it be? Look to the clues.
Love always,
Your Killer.

I see that my presence here has instilled much doubt amongst you all, dear mortals, just as it did to many of my victims at Rue Manor. To those who doubt my legitimacy: My riddles shall be explained once The Killer is revealed. My identity shall also be proven. Until then, believe what you will.
Your Killer.

And now, dear mortals. A riddle:
A wondrous seventh day begins I must atone soon for my sins, A clue shall now come straight from me That only die-hard fans can see, My eyes don’t see the blinding light I go forth using all my might So look at blue instead of red Or else you just might end up dead.
Love always,
Your Killer.
