I have the nagging suspicion that “Your Killer” is just playing us (the writing style is completely unlike what I’d expect from any of the remaining survivors, anyway). Even if there is something to it, I’m not going to keep 10 episodes on my DVR just in case there was something I missed. Like I already said, just enjoying the ride.
I don’t fault Ronnie for making such an outlandish case. He was running on fumes at that point, and I seriously doubt he was prepared for something this convoluted. For what it’s worth, he was definitely one of the more entertaining contestants.
Interesting point in “You missed a lot of evidence!” and how it relates to the mechanics of the game. Being able to search only one location (and for what seems like a very limited timeframe) seriously hampers what any one group can know after the initial investigation. In the early stages, this makes trading of information and building trust critical. This week there was not only a lot more to consider (neither Kam nor Ronnie found the switch or found anything unusual about the paint on the floor), but there being only five left cut down on the options for dealmaking. I think we’re going to see a major shift in the last two (three?) episodes; it’s going to come down to a gritty, no-holds-barred race to the line where they have to grab as much information as they can as quickly as they can and protect it well. Now we see how good Kam really is. (I know he’s good; I just don’t know if he’s that good.)
Great show! Probably too troublesome to have more than one season a year, but if this gets renewed, I’m definitely looking forward to it.
It could just be a random dude. I have no idea how much ABC monitors those forums (probably not much).
In the book, in the final episode all three contestants remaining get to go to all three sites. I’ve been speculating that, since I think Melina is the killer, the producers will let them go to all three places earlier, so she has a plausible reason not to get knocked off.
Sadly, two episodes left. I hope it gets renewed, but the ratings are merely average and apparently it’s expensive to film.
I’m still one show behind, so I’m not reading the end of this thread, but it occurred to me maybe the contestants’ nervousness about getting a Scared card isn’t entirely feigned. Wouldn’t it be devilish if, when you get “killed,” what they do is have someone sneak into your room while you’re sleeping and startle you awake? Then they’d be like, “Sorry, you’re dead - we need to spend the next two hours doing your corpse makeup - follow me.” It’s nothing dangerous, but damn, it would put you on edge, wouldn’t it? Add that in with the emotional impact of losing, and I could easily see people getting genuinely upset and scared when they get a card!
Well, I doubt anyone sneaks into the room, they probably tell the contestant right after filming the “will I live through the night?” sequence. Of course, I suppose you don’t know that, so you could still be upset about losing out on some cash.
Finally caught up!! I have been reading this thread with interest (up to the last ep I had seen… THANK YOU for spoiler boxes right before the next ep every week).
I have to think that it was pretty “unfair” (it’s a game show where they can do what they want, so I put it in quotes) that they killed off 2 of the non-Kam team in one week. By evening it up in one swoop, they basically made it more likely that Kam team would get ahead (of course provided they got the riddle). I think when you have a seemingly rock solid team (well, Lindsey will always waver somewhat), you have to allow for the ‘others’ to have a chance to chip it away.
Of course, the nature of the game could have completely changed if Kam was killed instead of Ulysses (who I think would be more willing to share with one member of the other team). But Kam is the “VILLAIN” so, they gotta let that continue I guess.
So I guess there are 2 more eps left? This one and then the one with 3 (where the killer is found?). Hope it gets renewed (and I hope future contestants dispense with the ‘its more than just a game stuff’ - ie, “I don’t want to die”)
There isn’t any choice as to who is ultimately “killed”. The show’s disclaimer (referenced above) clearly states the victims are determined based on the results of a written test (not shown on screen but presumably the basis for the on-screen explanations given by the contestants).
Yep. As part of game show law, producers can’t interfere in that kind of thing. So when Dana and Sasha were killed, it was because they tied for the lowest score. Actually, the producers were probably pissed, because then they had one less episode to do.
No obvious murder? Of course, if Melina is the killer as I suspect, this could be cover for her getting away and leaving the others to find her (and Giles).
I was really annoying with Kam when he went “Hmm, Melina went from total dumbass to super-sleuth! Guess she’s not the killer” WHAT? That’s the strongest evidence that she IS the killer.
Of course, he also pulled the dumb “I want to go where I can see someone listening in - oh look, right next to the door with windows seems like a good place”.
The zombies next episode is probably the cheesiest thing yet, but I have a feeling I’ll enjoy it.
I can see a lot of potential wiggle room, however. The results of the written test can “decide the victim” in that the lowest scores of the written test can lead to “Scared” cards and then producers decide - that decides the victim. Also, IIRC, the written test is essay, not multiple choice - so scoring has some subjectivity involved.
Anyways, what I’m saying is that producers have been known to meddle before to make a better show.
Kam has posted details on reddit of the quiz. The summary you posit is not accurate.
What he posted was:
Quiz is short answer, not multiple choice or essay
The victim is always the lowest scoring person and they always get a scared card
the other scared card is producer’s choice
They MUST kill the lowest scorer. (I assume for the twofer that Dana and Sasha tied for lowest.
Scoring is done by the ABC standards department, NOT the producers. The producers only get back who the lowest scorer was, they do not know the scores.
The quiz comes after “state your case”
Overall, their probably is some producer meddling, but it’s a gameshow, and they don’t want the lawsuit that would come with meddling that way.
Well that’s kind of sad. I’d rather have a bit of producer meddling - esp when there is a low score tie. I mean, there has to be bonus points for coming up with a trained monkey explanation!
Most Summer series are 10 episodes and in order to get to the final three, in the final episode, they needed to have “Two-Fer Murder” to fit everyone in.
They have had double eliminations in Big Brother and Survivor.
Why did Kam goto the crime scene (rather than the morgue) since Kris went to the Crime scene, and Lindsey went to last known whereabouts and they were sharing info.
Yes, Melina got an injection of gray matter in this episode. Or more likely a whole of help from the producers because she is the killer.
I really like this show. Not totally brainless but campy just the same. Hope it renewed for next summer.
True; the could have just asked for the two lowest scoring contestants.
Kam had to pick his location before the girls did; he didn’t know what the rest of them were going to choose and couldn’t change after they did. That’s why Melina was hoping to go anywhere but the crime scene - then she’d have one place to herself.
The latter is my opinion as well.
You and me both - it’s so cheesy but I love it so much.
I love how Melina played it. Yes, she could be the killer, but I thought that’s exactly how you HAVE to play it if you down 3-1. You have to insist on location, sneak and snoop around, etc. Though the tea and note deduction was pretty out of left field. Though if she obv was the killer, I think they would have made it a bit easier by letting her in on the ‘pool equipment’ part - she was at the poor area by herself after all.
And yes, such a great surprisingly enjoyable show - completely made fun by the exaggerated camp.
I’m really hoping that Melina’s disappearance means she’s the killer, if only because I’ve had my money on her since the beginning. I really liked the way she sat down and tried to get information out of the team–she certainly seemed way smarter than anybody had previously given her credit for.
Did anybody notice Cris walking the wall separating the hot tub from the pool in those ridiculous shoes? I was really hoping she’d take a spill, because I’m a terrible human being.
And Lindsay … just standing there while everybody else assumed she was dead. Way to be creepy, Lindsay. Tactically it was kind of sound, especially if they had been talking smack about her, but all it did was scare the hell out of them. Did anybody else think that maybe she’d already been poisoned or something when she got all giggly and stupid? I would have loved if she’d just dropped dead in the middle of a game of pool.
I am officially calling this show “Howdunnit” instead since apparently the who is irrelevant.
It makes sense, though. Nothing has pointed to any particular person as being the killer. It’s all about the method of murder and nothing indicates anyone.
