Who's Bored? Let's Solve a 30-Year Old Mystery.

Here’s a puzzle.

In 1976, an apparently affluent young couple in their 20’s was found dead on a lonely road in South Carolina. Murdered.

But not a robbery.

The woman had her rings, the man, a gold watch.

No witnesses, no ID.

30 years later, their identities are still unknown.

The police suspect they may have been foreigners.

I’m intrigued.

Anybody want to play Sherlock Holmes?

Eurodopers–these two may have been tourists. Anything in the article suggesting Euro origins to you?

Well, I own the exact same ring. The red and blue one. From Arizona, circa 1995-ish. Regular old tourist crap. Corss-country trip.

Sigh.
I was feeling pretty good today, too…

Well, a simple DNA test now could determine if they were related or not. A missing brother/sister might be easier to track down than a couple.

Nowadays I’m sure they could do a check on the materials used for the fillings and maybe match it to a supplier, which could then be narrowed to the distribution area. I would guess that back then the European fillings would have had different standards (mercury levels, etc) than North American fillings.

Well, they were obviously killed by…

An Anonymous Coward!!!

Hell, I’m still trying to figure out who killed Dot King and Starr Faithfull and kidnapped Little Charley Ross . . .

Ooooh, I bet Pee Wee Gaskins did it. That was during his era and right in the area he used to kill people.

Gaskins killed over 100 people and was one of America’s most prolific serial killers. I’d link you to something, but googling “Pee Wee Gaskins” brought up some seriously not nice stuff.

In August of 76 I was just starting 7th grade in Oklahoma, so it wasn’t me.

Jesus! Glad I turned down that invitation to Pee Wee’s Playhouse!
