the only Chinese scam I was involved in is a neighbor kid thought it would be funny to stiff my mom and me for 6o bucks of delivery… luckily i knew the owner she knew and i rarely ordered orange chicken to be delivered because my brother can’t eat anything made with oranges ever ,
she just gave me the food and wrote it off eventually she figured out who it was because the restaurant owners group had a discussion when it was a thing
My wife got one yesterday. Claimed to be from the Chinese speaking fraud arm of UPS. Also claimed that she sent out multiple fraudulent credit cards via UPS. Looped in Shanghai Public Security Bureau, who told her she needed to report this in Shanghai.
- she wasn’t in the US when this supposed fraud happened
- I haven’t called UPS, but I’d be pretty surprised if they indeed have this Chinese speaking fraud investigation arm
- The Shanghai public security bureau person could not understand the native Shanghai dialect (all Shanghaiese can at least understand and speak passable shanghaiese)
- I’m not sure whether it was the phone program, but she couldn’t hang up the phone. I told her to reboot and that worked.
There is something certainly going around
I get three or more a week. If I don’t know the number or it’s an 800 one I’ll block it or let it go to voicemail. My number is for northern Nevada.
