Somewhere between ten and twelve inches of snow last night.
Hasn’t stopped a thing. Schools are open, people are driving.
It takes a lot more than that to shut down us Yoopers.

I looked out the window 20 minutes ago. Nothing.
I looked out 30 seconds ago and the sidewalks are already covered with snow. How fast is it coming down?
I might have a hard time walking home tonight.
We got about six inches last night, on top of the four or five we got last week. It’s so pretty! And my car is now dug out, because to call in for weather I’d think we’d have had to get about another two feet at least or my boss would laugh at me.
I am shocked that they closed the schools, though I suspect it’s largely so the kids can go ski. They don’t close down much here for snow. If they did nothing would get done for about six months.
We’ve got about six inches of snow here, and I’m going to use that as an excuse to take today off (and therefore have a four-day weekend). I probably *could * get to work (I’ve got AWD and good snow-rated tires), but I imagine it would take me a long time to do my eight-mile commute; and getting down off the hill would be problematical, what with all the other cars.
I intend to play a lot of WoW, Halo, and Left 4 Dead today.
It basically poured all night and now it’s really windy. Temp is supposed to get up around 40. Kneadtoknow: Why on earth would you much rather have snow than 70? You’re mad, I tell you…MAD!
I haven’t been out, but we had some ice here last night, so I may have trouble getting out. Luckily I don’t have to be anywhere.
My brothers turned around and went home. To much snow and drifting for them to drive to work and get home later.
Yeah, I’m trapped at home due to icy streets.
But hey, no worries–I mean, it’s not like I needed to make it to the hospital for a checkup to see whether it’s safe for me to fly home this Christmas
(I’m recovery from a tonsillectomy and still have some scabbing which is a little worrisome, so I need to stay in the vicinity of a hospital in case of emergency.)
We’re getting a half ton of it dumped on us in the Toronto area. It’s bad enough that we’re closing up shop 4 hours early so that just maybe we’ll get home around the time we’d normally get home on a regular day without so much of this crap.
I’m normally about 20 minutes from my workplace, but I know even now that it’s gonna take me a good 2 hours to get home.
And the damn storm’s not even half done yet.
I’ve got about eight inches of snow here. My neighborhood is completely white. The side roads don’t get sanded or plowed around here. However, in looking at the DOT cams, it appears the major highways are somewhat clear.
The issue in this area is not the SNOW, it’s the ice that forms under it. This is why the Puget Sound region always seems paralyzed by what seems minor amounts of snow.
I don’t have to be anywhere today, other than maybe getting some Christmas shopping started. Yes, started…I haven’t picked up a single present yet.
My wife and I grew up in Minnesota, where this weather wouldn’t have been noticed, much less cause widespread shutdowns. Now we live in Bellevue (just east of Seattle), which actually cancelled school on Wednesday for a prediction of snow (that never manifested, it was almost 40 degrees and flakeless).
However, despite our midwest training, we’re stuck in the apartment now, after mere 6-9 inches of snow Thursday. The big difference is road care. We could drive on ice – if we could get to it. But our 1/4 mile deep apartment parking lot and it’s 8 inches of snow haven’t been plowed, and there are no plans to do so (“It’ll melt in a few days…”).
NW Indiana didn’t get hit quite as bad as Chicago - about 4 inches of slush, ice, and water. It’s slick. If I absolutely had to get somewhere the streets are sort of passable but extremely messy and you won’t go nowhere fast. Just as well I don’t have to go anywhere. Stocked up on groceries yesterday, so we’ll just sit tight. I don’t have work this week (nothing likely prior to Tuesday) so I don’t need to go out. The most “urgent” thing is new windshield wiper blades for the truck, so if we do need to go anywhere we’d probably take the car.
I’m tempted to call up all my former co-workers who still have to commute into Chicago and [Nelson]“HA - HA!”[/Nelson] at them, but I am still managing to restrain my evil impulses.
My only real worry is if the power goes out, at which point we lose heat and water, but so far so good though other parts of this area are, in fact, in the dark.
The landlord just stopped by to take care of our driveway. I customarily brew up a cup of hot chocolate for him and any minions he may have with him, so I’m off to find clean mugs for that purpose.
Harumph. Got nada. They promised 2-4 inches last night but we didn’t even get a snowflake!
I’ve got a sled that needs using, dangit!
(Maybe tomorrow. . .)
I’m having trouble with the weather channel; anyone know how South Dakota is doing?
I slogged on foot through 8 inches to get to work. (It only felt like it was uphill, though)
I looked like a sasquatch by the time I got here.
Not so much snowed in as a tad lazier than usual. Looked like it was going to be bad, so I decided to work from home today. Looking out the window, I don’t think it’s quite as bad as they had predicted but from reports I’ve heard, most of my office made the same choice as me.
Heh, heh, heh. It’s 74 outside right now.
However, we have a cold front coming in on Sunday, so we’ll be miserable right along with ya!
Snowed in here. No school.
Well it’s still there as far as I can tell.
Dammit - nothing. We were supposed to get 1-3 inches last night and got barely a dusting. And now it’s bright and sunny out (which is nice, I admit). Apparently we’re in for 6 inches or so by Sunday afternoon, however.
Grumble. Live in Madison, all the snow goes north. Live in Minneapolis, all the snow goes south. I swear it’s me.
