Who's snowed in today?

Me, though it’s more ice than snow, and probably not as bad on the flats.

On behalf of the Chicagoland area and their slashed budget for buying road salt, I would like to cordially invite you to consider moving to our area!

I went to college in Madison, then grad school in Minneapolis - after dealing with Twin Cities weather, you’ll think this is warm. We don’t even use engine heaters here!

I’m not technically snowed in, but the combination of extreme cold (it’s -36ºC with the windchill right now), terrible streets, and a deep and abiding lethargy on my part is having basically the same effect.

That said, I have to go plug my car in. I’m going to go do a little shopping. If I don’t get off my ass, I’ll just sit here all day.

Got just enough put a dusting on the car.

Let’s see how the weekend is.

Eli

Yep, completely snowed in here north of Seattle. We’ve got 18 inches of snow on the ground, and we’re quite possibly in for that amount all over again over the weekend. My driveway is about a quarter of a mile long, so I’m not going anywhere unless I can trudge there on foot. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s crazy, though; this kind of snowfall almost never happens here. In the last fifteen years I can recall only two occurrences of snow over two feet deep, so to be faced with the real possibility of three feet or more is pretty remarkable. Oh, and we might be getting freezing rain and violent windstorms too. Hello, protracted power outage! It’s a good thing we have a wood-burning stove and a generator handy…

They let us leave work at noon. It is now almost 3PM. I am maybe halfway home. Traffic is grinding along somewhere between 15km/h and ‘I could snowshoe it faster’. Granted, much of the length is due to the inefficient mid-day bus routes I need to take, because my usual bus home doesn’t run until 4, and I didn’t actually leave work until 12:20, and I went into Square One mall for jalf an hour just to get away from the damn bus when making my second transfer, but still…

Traffic must suck in Toronto proper then. I was pleasantly surprised that I actually made it home in more or less the same amount of time that it would normally take me – give or take 5 or 10 minutes. However, trudging through the crap was another story; the storm has picked up considerably by the time I arrived in Brampton, and as I speak visibility is pretty low. I ain’t goin’ out anywhere tonight. We’re just going to order pizza or something and let the storm rage on without us, maybe give it time to blow out and have some things plowed.

I guess that means my ex hasn’t frozen solid and been broken into little pieces. Damn.

Yes, I noticed that it was getting colder and the snow and wind were increasing.

I think I need a new parka.

We just got home from pill hill. The streets weren’t that bad. We were also at Group Health Central on Capital Hill. There was some ice on the back side, but not bad.

If the hospital you’re talking about is Overlake, good luck. I think NE 8th is still closed.

From the Eastside, Bellevue streets aren’t too bad, either – I managed to force my way out of the parking lot at lunchtime, and after that it was easy. The little bits of sun have done wonders for the roads. I didn’t get as far south as 8th, though.

I might have been snowed in, but I’ll never know. Today is a vacation day for me, and I wasn’t planning on going anywhere anyway.

I’m still getting lake effect snow, 5 hours after it stopped snowing further inland. <<sigh>>

We had a snow day - our maintenance team couldn’t even get in to plow so we just cancelled everything. All the roads were icy and many of our people come from pretty rural areas that won’t even see a plow today. No big deal for me - I took a bunch of work home and got more done in four hours than I can get done in a day at work. And I start my vacation tomorrow - cool.

I went over to the Pine Lake Alehouse for lunch, here in Sammamish. The main road is pretty clear, but the side streets are still very slick. I clearly should’ve shoveled my driveway, because I barely made it into my garage when I got home.

We’re supposed to get more snow on Sunday, so we might not see clear roads for a few days.

Here in Southeastern NH we’ve got 2-3" already and I believe we’re expecting 3-5" more. So we’re not really snowed in now, but we anticipate it.

I’m in Madison Park, and I needed to go to the UWMC on Pacific. I wouldn’t have been able to make it up the hill out of the neighborhood this morning (it would probably be doable this afternoon, but not when I needed to go). And of course there’s a bus stop right by my place…which is one of the routes that was canceled.

I was honestly and truly snowed in yesterday for the first time in fo’evah. We probably got @20 inches yesterday, but it was drifting and the viz sucked. Even my trusty Subie wasn’t getting out of the driveway. Good thing I brought my laptop home! Good thing I forgot the power cord! Got some work done, then goofed off.

Various roads were closed for bombing at times, but other than that, life as usual. I understand it was an epic powder day on the hill, though.

That would not be me, judging by this view of my balcony.

New Hampshire update: we’re getting socked. Got 3-4" on Friday night and Saturday morning, now we’re supposed to get 7-12" before this storm calls it quits. Last week’s ice storm has us all a little on edge anticipating a repeat of the power outage, but for now all is well. Besides the shitload of snow, I mean.
