I’ve had a very kind offer of assistance, since I’m in the “no plastic, no Paypal, broke” camp. I’m not sure if I’ll take it though, if I can find someone local to sign me up. I got a little bonus at the zoo, but It’s already mostly spoken for. At any rate, I’ll be seeing ya all!
I have to admit I’m concerned about Paypal as well, and don’t really understand why they chose such a horrible method. SDMB is certainly worth $5; it is not worth identity theft and massive credit card charges for nothing.
Give me an address to send a cheque to. Give me any other method for payment, but not Paypal.

I managed to cajole a friend of mine, who owes me some money anyway, to pay for me, so alas, you won’t be getting rid of me after all.

I fully intend to pay and stay. I like it here. I don’t really know how to use Paypal though; whenever I buy something online I use a credit card.
I’ll stay for the first year, but I doubt there’ll be much of a board left by the next year.
I find it odd that people are concerned about PayPal, but would be eager to send a check. Stolen credit card = $50 liability, stolen check = empty bank account.
I’m in. Hell, I used to pay $9.95 a month for access to the AOL SDMD (the cost of unlimited AOL time if you provided your own access through a different ISP). I’m in more of a financial crunch now than then, but $4.95 a year is much less than $9.95 a month.
Incidententally, for those you can’t pay b/c of no credit card and no Paypal, EddyTeddyFreddy is running a thread in ATMB you should look at.
